I've got no strong views on the issue. It will make no difference to who is elected in the constituency that I live in.
I'm going to vote 'Yes' for the simple reason that we had PR foisted upon us in N. Ireland for all elections other than Westminster years ago. If 'the first past the post' system isn't good enough for us to decide N. Ireland matters, why should it be good enough to decide Westminster matters? We got no referendum on the matter.
We are also voting on the NI Assembly and also on the Council elections. I am still very annoyed about the
D'Hondt system. It means that the top 4 or 5 parties are forced into a coalition. It also means that the different parties' manifestos on most subjects means nothing. After the election, parties take a choice of what government departments they want to run depending on the number of seats they win. If you vote for a party because of , say, their education policies and they don't get the Education brief, there's little that can be done. A minority party's educational policy will be implemented.
It is a bit like insisting that the Westminster government consists of the Tories, Labour and the LibDems. How far would it get in formulating a budget?
