To be honest I don't know why they had the opener of one of the worlds most famous sporting events at a new pitch, it was obvious that the groundsmen would have a standard pitch to recoup some money, should have been at ground where the pitch will do something, get the series off to a flier.

Once again we are given a lesson in how to play Test cricket by the Aussies,we seem to approach all our games in a Twenty 20 sort of way go for every thing instead of playing your way in like Ponting and his team do,I hope this series doesnt go the way of others in the past and end up being humiliated again....

Yeah he sure is but lets face it England are pathetic .
2 front line batsmen out to straight balls, looks like an innings defeat .

That's the annoying thing. The Aussies played it straight all day (we know they're not, being ex-prison un all). Watching 650+ runs you'd have thought the England batsmen in the field would have thought "they seem to be hitting it straight when the ball is straight, maybe we should do the same". Bopara's decision was bad though, as Buckner has turned down more obvious ones and is known as a "not giver". Flights to Brisbane on Quantas to do their next test series will do a lot to a fella though.

yes its bad enough being humiliated by the worst Aussie team to come over here for many a year but picking the side we did helped them out. Harmison and Onions both should have played. How long are they going to persevere with Anderson? His test record is not good, he is not a main strike bowler at test level. Panesar is too predictable , he doesn't seem to have much variation. Pace and good swing bowling won us the Ashes last time the Aussies were here, lets get back to that for the next test.

I said it the other day - i think the whole context of the game could have been changed by Flintoff taking it easy with the bat and trying to stick around. He got caught up in the crowd and threw his wicket away for 30 odd. The body language from your bowlers yesterday was atrocious and with Harmison grabbing another 5 wicket haul i'd say he'll most likely get a call up for the second. Second lbw was harsh but we'll take it. First was plum. Rain might save you but the writings on the wall for the next - mind you i'm not a fan of this pitch or ground for that matter. I'll be listening at work tonight if there's any play...

and jabdc5 - by worst you mean least known - the competition to make the Aussie team is fierce so there are no shit players. The batting records for our team stack up well as evidenced by the four centuries and the highest total against england we posted yesterday. It was the bowlers we were worried about. Lee to come back next test hopefully will just add to the pain...

How tense but enjoyable was that?

Bring on the next test. I think I may be calling in sick on Thursday and Friday.
