Stream from Laptop to TV
Hi guys

hopefully this is in the right thread!

I am to purchase imminently a new laptop. What I'm after is people's thoughts on streaming to the TV through the laptop. There may be a very quick answer to this if

a)it's too complicated I aint going to bother and

b)if the laptop I am looking to buy (HP550) has no TV out (which it hasn't) I'm guessing this means I can't do it anyways?

Thanks for your thoughts

Rob

I think there are a few ways to do it, easiest is an HDMI cable, failing that a monitor cable or .........can't fookin remember the name of it but its round with lots of oddly positioned pegs in it!

Get one with DVI or HDMI output and you'll be good to go.

Also possible with VGA but quality will be compromised.

What inputs does your TV have?

Thanks for all your replies.

The TV has:

>PC in
>DVI in and
>S -Video

What does the laptop need to convert TV to a monitor?

your laptop should at least have a vga out, so in that case just get a vga to dvi cable HERE and connect with that.

Shop around though as you can probably get them cheaper elsewhere.

Grab one of these

And don't forget you'll also need an audio cable

just another thought...once I've got the cable are there any specific settings that I need to apply to the laptop to use the TV as a monitor?

Thanks
