Just after trying it there with the laptop connected to the hub with the ethernet cable and its coming in at 28 meg. I done a speed test with the laptop before i went to a wired connection and it was 4 meg plus i did a speed test opn the ps3 and it came up at 9meg but their speed is just an estimate. Is the hub faulty then do you think? Because i was getting 9-10 meg before when i first got it in then it dropped.

Sounds like it's either a hub wireless problem or a laptop wireless problem. Your call, you know how your laptop performed in the past.

Personally, I'd get on to BT.

If it helps any, I phoned Virgin because my speeds dropped and it turned out to be my router. Replaced my existing modem with a wireless one (Virgins, no need for seperate router) and speeds were back to normal.

Im just after ringing bt there, they told me the conection speed is based on a wired connection and that as im getting 28 meg through a wired connection theres nothing they can do and im stuck with 3-4 meg wireless speed. I asked to have a replacement hub and they told me that there is nothing wrong with the hub as they can see through the bt online maintaince in my account. Looks like im going to have to buy a cable off ebay and go wired if i want the 28 meg. Pardon my french, fuck that anyways.....

I would argue with them. Try to check your wireless laptop speed via a mate's router. If it is decent, you've got some data to go back to them with and an example of their hub being below par. Their adverts state that the Hub provides the best wireless connection. 4 meg on a 28 meg connection is not 'the best'.

Did you try switching the router off and on again?

Ive got two spare routers at home here i could use, a seimens one and a netgear one, but the way im connected is through an bt openzone type router then a hub soo im unsure how id go about connecting an ordinary router to the fibre optic setup they have like. Plus i was told not to turn off the router for 10 days as kind of a settling in period.

Allochtony, did you get them results of bttester.net? Thats meant to be where you have to go to get the best reading, but im getting my speed to be in the 30's and that isnt right like.

BT won't accept a speedtest taken on any other site. Their own one logs your details and results.
