Does anyone acess sky through the sky player and if so are they having any problems with it? I am using it but its crap for games, tho my internets only 0.8 meg at the min through orange so i just signed up to bt super fast broadband which uses a fibre optic cable and the speed is supposed to be 13 meg guaranteed.

Very impressive. You see i rang looking the bt infitity package but it isnt available in our area. Id to settle for option three on the super fast broadband, its costing £41.90 a month tho when you tie in the line rental and call packages we had already existing.

Barry. The truth is that I never download films. Downloading software on µTorrent is like shit off a shovel. The only hold-up is the seeder's upload speed.

Bazzer did they tell you that you would get around 13meg aswell and your only getting 3meg? I was told earlier that with fibre optics the 13 meg will be 13 meg like. Seemingly thats the way it is, it doesnt give a range it is spot on with the speed.

No Barry they said 3meg would be my average speed ,use their line speed test on their package page mate ,said 3 meg when I signed up
Speed Test.Net shows 3 to 3.7 when I check it on there

Aw rite bazzer sorry i thought maybe i was going to get screwed there. Naw 13 meg is meant to be the speed when the fibre optic is fitted. Tho when i see the 30 odd meg that you guys are getting i feel kinda jealous. But still going from 0.5-1meg til 13meg will do me for now. Cheers mike, yeah im on the low quality and it still buffers every few mins and messes about. Even to use the browser links or some of the sopcast on here it stop starts aswell like.

Fibre optic should be symmetrical, something the uk isp's seem to ignore. Well done uk isp's, consider all your customers as pirates and don't give them the true upload they should have.
After 20-30 Mbit/s download there is not much difference, I say this as someone who already had 11/11 Mbit/s in 2005...then upgraded and upgraded to finally reaching 1Gbit/s, which turned out to be a waste of space and cost shitloads in upgrading net cards and routers.
I have since then downgraded again to 100/100 which unless you are doing something dodgy or receiving your tv signal though the net is also overkill for the average joe bloggs that wants to watch a couple of streams and maybe download a movie or 2.
Nothing to do with the thread, but I thought I'd mention it. Also, as soon as you access wirelessly your speed will decrease. To measure a line speed properly make sure you are cabled up.

I have this well my old da has sky and I just use his log in for it according to sky for the best results you need a minimum speed of 2.8. I have only 2 but it seems to work ok for the sports channels a couple of the other channels I have to change the settings to low quality or they just buffer. Barry if you are only getting a speed of 0.8 that is where your problems are mate I'm surprised you are getting anything at all with that sort of speed.

Ive got the broadband fitted here and its coming into the pc that the hub is connected too at 28 meg, seemingly they didnt realise how close i was to the exchange and im getting 15 meg extra. But my laptops only picking it up at 4 meg and the ps3 is around the same. Why is this does anyone know? Cant really ring bt like cos the have held up with their end. For the first two days it was 9 meg in the laptop and ps3 but the last two there is been 3-4 meg.

Wireless is a lot slower and the more things you have connected, the slower it gets.

Cheers begbie, yeah the engineer said it would lose a meg or two going wireless but at the min its down 24 meg like. Anytime ive done the laptop speed test ive had all other machines off soo there is no interference with them you would think. Plus im only a block wall from the router soo its not as if im a million miles away too.

Sounds weird. Maybe something wrong with the router?
Edit: What speed are you getting when you wire up the laptop to the hub with the ethernet cable?

My speeds hardly vary from one computer to the next, I have 3 computers running wirelessly and one wired, they all pretty much run at the same speed. If there is a difference it's minor. (Virgin internet)
