Just out of idle curiosity and because i'm at work and have sod all to do how does streaming work. Can anyone explain, in laymans terms, how i take a channel from my TV, filter it thru my laptop/pc, and put it on air for all to see.

I'm assuming there's some piece of hardware needed to connect tele to laptop?

If anyone is equally as bored and could explain all i'd be hugely grateful.

I'm not a streamer because in Australia we have the worst upload power ie: when i upload a picture it does so at the alarming rate of 19k - phew slow down there fella lol - so streaming a live channel is out of the question for me - but others with stronger upload ability can do it - it's a bit complicated but here is the Sopcast instructions - http://www.sopcast.org/docs/so.html#4 and for the browser links, say Veetle for instance, you can read here - http://veetle.com/index.php/article/view/broadcast101. Seems a bit much but after a bit you would know how to do it pretty easily. And to explain how p2p works read here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer-to-peer

I've seen the Queensland floods on the news. Looks absolutely horrendous.

like the Thames but add worlds deadliest pissed off snakes and spiders, bull sharks and crocodiles, box jellyfish and irikandji, sheets of iron, barbed wire, dead animals, faeces etc into the equation and you don't want to be hanging oot in the water...
