PLEASE NOTE: Although the manual says to choose a login name and password it is best to just sign in as anonymous user. If starting the player manually, the username and password are included in the fields by default - just click login without changing anything! If you have clicked on an FSi link it will open SopCast and login automatically - nothing to press!

Now - lets get a stream going...click on the Live Football Streams & Matchday Feedback thread -

Click on the SopCast link for the channel you would like to watch and you will get this message -

Click either YES, OK, ALLOW or LAUNCH APPLICATION and the SopCast player will open. If you are starting the player for the first time your firewall may prompt you to allow the connection to proceed - click YES. Now the player should be on your screen like this -

http://i40.tinypic.com/jg5v7a.png

On the bottom right corner of the SopCast player's screen is the buffer number - 100 being the best - 0 being the worst. It can take a minute or two to start buffering the channel till you get to the channels full strength - Some streams can be viewed with a buffer of 40 perfectly fine others may falter at 40. The buffer number does not always have to be on 100 to watch. Below is a basic rundown of the buttons on the SopCast player and what they do -

http://i49.tinypic.com/wsjrq.jpg

Watching via VLC Player

Has somebody on the forum advised you to watch the stream via VLC? Before you do anything else, you should download and install the VLC Player from the FSi downloads page (http://www.footballstreaming.info/upload/).

After installation, the easiest way is to set VLC player to be Sopcast's default player. To do this, launch Sopcast and login, then click on 'Option' at the bottom of the Sopcast channel list.

http://www.freewebs.com/friendsoffsi/Sopcast/Sop%20options.jpg

Next, click 'Use my own media player' and enter the location of where you installed VLC player. Then click 'Apply followed by 'Ok''. Now close Sopcast.

http://www.freewebs.com/friendsoffsi/Sopcast/VLC%20as%20default.jpg

From now on you should now be able to view your Sopcast stream in the VLC player. To do this launch Sopcast by clicking one of our links, Sopcast will open and connect to the stream. When the stream has buffered to > 40 tell Sopcast to open the stream in VLC by clicking on the 'Double-box' at the bottom of your Sopcast viewer.

http://www.freewebs.com/friendsoffsi/Sopcast/Play%20in%20VLC.jpg

Sopcast will launch VLC Player and you will see the stream in its window. You can now minimise Sopcast but do not close it as it is still receiving the stream.

Like everything on the internet, sometimes SopCast goes down for whatever reason. For new users - this doesn't mean that it doesn't work - we know it works! - it just means it's having a bad minute/hour/day and you may need to try an alternate player/link. If SopCast player isn't working, messages are usually posted in the feedback thread from other FSi users saying as much. Thankfully this only happens maybe twice a year.

That should have you watching football on SopCast - if you are having any problems - the feedback thread or the chatroom are the places to post for the quickest answers.

We're apparently up to version 3.2.9 - which doesn't seem to be working as smoothly as 3.2.4.

Anyone else had issues or has it just been a bad week in Soppy land?

I'm thinking it was from the streamers end not the Sopcast player itself as i'm using the previous version and i had a few troubles this weekend with some streams that are normally rock solid. It's nothing new in the land of Sopcast!

Are the same programs always on the same numbers on Sopcast, for example would yes always be on 123 etc?

Are the same programs always on the same numbers on Sopcast, for example would yes always be on 123 etc?Occasionally you get Fox Soccer and Fox Soccer Plus on the same Sopcast channel. Most stick to the same channel but some don't. All we can do is give a 'best guess' about some Sop channels.

I know you can save favourite channels, can you change the numbers to names or put them beside so you know whats what?

Typical East Belfast man. Getting something for free and he wants more.

I apologise in advance for being puter dyslexic :oops:

At the moment when I watch a match I just choose it from the various streamers (is that right?) that is beside the list of available games.
For the most part I get a game to watch, but may have to try different, streamers to get one to work. apart from the pesky popup adverts all has been well.

My questions is, I see folk talking about "sopcast" should I download a programme if I can already see a game. Is there benefits from downloading programmes/softwear?

cheers

FyodorSopcast doesn't get taken down for 'copyright reasons' like the browser streams.

On the plus side for Sopcast, if you have a reasonable download speed on your internet and a reasonably specced computer, some streams can be almost TV quality nowadays.

On the negative side, the stream is often farther behind live than the browser streams.

Re: the adverts. Get something like Ad-block Plus installed. It's free and you don't have to watch the rubbishy popups. I think Ad-block Plus only works on Chrome and Firefox but there are others out there.

Works a treat, not worked out how to put in manual channel number, looks like you can put in the full url ok. However clicked on a digi sport link from the front page and loaded and played no problem. A must for the euros, nice 1.
