Right then.... I'm back from my hols and it's time to register your interest for the new Prediction League season.

I think there is a slight admin issue to resolve before the table is up an running, but you can register your interest here... it will give me an idea of how many participants we are likely to have.

For those who are new to it (where have you been?? )...it's easy, good fun and very competitive.

Post your interest, and as soon as you are able to register, I will let you know.

OK, you may have seen the new Prediction League.. its the one sharky has been banging on about.. it pretty much does the same thing as the old one, its just fully automated so burdock doesnt have to remember to set the matches up each week!

Points are as follows:
0 Points for a completely wrong prediction
1 Point for a properly guessed match winner
2 Points for a correctly guessed match winner and goal difference (Winning team/Losing team)
3 Points for a exactly guessed match result

We can change those points if you are not happy..

so does this mean we have 26 matches to predict on every weekend and will it mean when there is mid week games in any of those 3 league's they are included and you predict, would just keep the 1 Point for a properly guessed match winner and 3 Points for a exactly guessed match result the normal way myself

err.. yes!

scudd
17-08-2011, 03:57 PM
you don't have to predict on every leage if you don't want to, there are three leagues each seems to be ranked individually, so if you were to only predict EPL and SPL then you will be only in those two ranking tables..

I think..

Lots of different features on the new version. It will take a bit of getting used to.

I think we should have a practise week this weekend and then reset it for the week after? It will give others a chance to get on board.

Peoples predictions are visible to others... can this be altered?

Begbie
17-08-2011, 08:46 PM
I preferred the old version. Any fuck-ups could be traced back to Burdock.

Seriously though. What happens if the site goes down mid-week and some people can't do their predictions?

Burdock
17-08-2011, 08:58 PM
The dates are wrong for kick offs by the looks... perhaps needs some tinkering?

It's easier to put right any disasters on the old version I think.... and FSi wouldn't be FSi without disasters during the season.

I will reserve judgement for now.... but it feels like 'Terminator'.... handing over the running of our world to the computer.... the Prediction League is going to kill us all........ :)

Not much point in it really is there if predictions are visible to others. If you're at the top on the last weekend then all you have to do is copy your main rivals predictions and you can't be beaten.

Dunno, a quick add up of all points in ? leagues at the end of the season would be easy to do. We would just have to agree on which leagues count for a grand total.

Also don't know how we can have a cup competition either, I don't think it's possible.

The Cup Competition was done manually anyway. I just worked out who had done better in each tie on the week picked for the Cup Tie. I can still do that with the new version I think.

For the League, I suppose I could work out the combined table each week and post it in the thread. Shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Burdock
18-08-2011, 05:39 PM
I could post something like this simple excel worksheet each week for the combined league table.

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e133/Burdock64/Week1Test.jpg

Only need to insert the current points for each league and the totals are worked out automatically.

Saying all that, if peeps prefer 3 seperate leagues, then so be it.

Burdock
18-08-2011, 05:46 PM
Yeah that works for me,simple and easy to understand, are we still having the 2 league's,one now till Jan and Jan-may,add the 3 totals together for the table i prefer

I reckon so.... just requires admin to reset in Jan. Should be easy enough.

We just need a few more on board now. If people are quick, we can start this weekend... if we are missing a few, then maybe it should be reset for next week.

'Guest leagues' like the championship or bundesliga etc can be added at any time, scudd just added the 3 for the time being at set up.

There is a reset button on each league so all that remains is when we want to start and finish, what leagues are valid etc. Burdock can have his spreadsheets at the ready ...apart from there is no way scudd will finish anywhere near that example :)

The prediction league cup is run manually by Burdock so that will run as norm, he will just decide the matches to predict on for points and work it out from there.

Burdock
19-08-2011, 05:51 PM
Thanks Raff.

I think we should have a practise week this weekend and then reset the league on Monday. That way it will give everyone a chance to get their heads round the new set up, and also give us another week to perhaps try and attract a few new entrants to the League. At the moment we have 16 (all familiar with the old League).

The first League of the year will run then from 27th August and finish with the last fixtures on 1st Jan 2012 (Matchay 20 on the Premier league drop own menu).

I will pick Cup dates later.

I think we will have to sack the guest leagues this season, this new version just doesn't lend itself to that format unfortunately. I don't think there is a goal difference feature on the new version either, but as there are so many more matches to predict on this time round, it shouldn't cause too many problems.

So in short, we will be predicting on all games in the 3 nominated Leagues each week (instead of a selection of 12 matches). I will collate a combined League Table each week so you can see how you are doing overall.

Hopefully, any problems can be sorted this weekend when we can all see how it works and we will start proper next weekend... Sorry fishlad, I know you are keen to start!! (You will probably clean up this weekend and then become crap once the season starts.)

If any of our entrants want to persuade any other FSi'ers to join... feel free. :)

Nearly there now....... :D

Ha! Things are looking up.... saves a bit of messing about.

i still dont like the 2 points one myself for the right margin of error thing [if 1 say 2-0 and it ends 3-1] i get 2 points-prefer the 1 point or 3points

Having looked at the scoring now, I'm inclined to agree with fish. I think that there needs to more reward for predicting the score correctly (which is the name of the game!). Whether that means an extra point or 2 for a correct score, or sacking the 2 points for a correct goal difference altogether, would depend on the system. Perhaps Raff or the scuddmeister could look at it when we reset.

On balance, I would prefer to lose the 2 points thingy, but if that's not possible... then increase the points for a correct score.

What does everyone else think?

Begbie
20-08-2011, 06:51 PM
4 for correct score, 2 for correct goal difference and 1 for correct winning team sounds about right.

I doubt if it is configurable.

Edit: Jake would be top: http://www.fsicrew.info/forums/vbsoccer.php?do=overallranking

im not arsed how its scored lol just a bit o fun ,But do see what ya saying about the correct score i think it should be rewarded more . I like this new one better tbh

mfc1876
20-08-2011, 07:13 PM
Prefer the old scoring way myself like and that's coming from someone who got loads of 'goal difference predictions' right last season. The amount of times I took 1-0 and it finished 2-1 or I'd go 2-0 and it'd finish 3-1 so even though I'd probably have got even more points last season I'd still prefer to keep it as it was.

Having said that though it IS just a bit of fun so I'm not gonna bang on about it and the bottom line is I just appreciate it being there for us to play in the first place ;)

Burdock
20-08-2011, 07:40 PM
Looking at the League Table, I can't figure out how they come to the order of competitors who are on the same points?

I would have thought that the person with the most 3 pointers would be top where there is a tie... (it used to be goal difference on the old version)... but this isn't the case, and I can't see what rule is used. But then again, I am thick.

Raff67
21-08-2011, 06:54 AM
Here is the options pasted from the control panel...

0 Points for a completely wrong bet
1 Points for a properly guessed match winner
2 Points for a correctly guessed match winner and goal difference (Winning team/Losing team)
3 Points for a exactly guessed match result

This is the way everything else is stupid-its like the more away you are the better you get rewarded

What?

That sounds good. Predicting that a team wins 3-0 but actually wins 4-1 deserves more than somebody who predicted 1-0.

Burdock

I just think the rewards for a correct score are much fairer with a 4 pointer (2 points better than any other result), like the old version really.

That's not how I thought it worked.

In your example, if you predicted 3-0 or even 2-0 on a game that ended 1-0.... then you would only get 1 point. You would get 2 points though if you predicted 2-1, 3-2, 4-3 etc..

Or have I got that wrong?

Here is the League Table if you get 4 points for a correct score btw...

3-0 on a 1-0 game would get you 2 points as the GD is 2 away meaning 2 points in the new system ? 3-0 on a 1-0 game will only get you one point.

2-1 on a 1-0 game would get you the extra point. One point for picking the winning team and one point for the correct winning margin.

Burdock
21-08-2011, 07:41 PM
3-0 on a 1-0 game would get you 2 points as the GD is 2 away meaning 2 points in the new system ? surely works the same higher or lower [if you know what i mean ] and that is the way it is but anyway i give up now.

Aston Villa/ Blackburn Rovers my score 2-0, actual score was 3-1 [GD was 2 away -it got me 2 points] it should stay 1 point only

Kilmarnock v Hearts my score was 1-1 actual score was 0-0 [GD given was 2 -it got me 2 points] it should stay one point only

No mate, in both cases you got your 2 points because although you got the actual scores wrong, you were correct in goal difference terms. In other words you predicted a 2 goal gap in favour of Villa... and so got 2 points, because the gap was 2 in favour of Villa. If you had predicted 4-0 or 1-0, you would have got 1 point.... because there would not be a 2 goal gap.

When you predict a draw in a match, you can never get 1 point. It's either 3 points, 2 points or nothing at all..... no matter how many each team scores (as long as it finishes a draw!).

It's complicated to explain on the keyboard, but I'm sure it will work fine bud! :)

You will still get your ass whooped anyway.

14 of you have predicted so far. Remember, we are starting on Matchday 3 in England, Matchday 6 in Scotland and Matchday 2 in Spain (now they have called off their strike!).

As per last season, I will try and keep an eye on who has and who hasn't predicted each week. Every Friday, I will pm those who are leaving it late in case they have forgotten. It seemed to work pretty well last season and kept most people on board! If you don't predict for a couple of weeks despite the pms, I will stop bothering you... promise! :)

When we establish how many we will have in the League, I will sort out the 1st round of the Cup... always good fun that, when FSi'ers go head to head. :D

As an extra this season, Admin are putting up a 100,000 vcash prize each week for anyone correctly predicting the score on a single selected match. This week, that match will be Man Utd v Arsenal.

If there are any problems or issues with the new set up, just holler.... but it is looking good at the moment.

It's got to be 2sheds year this time...... the bridesmaid is surely going to be a bride soon?

Nope, nothing to do with vBookie, you predict a score line.

Here is the point system we are working with..

0 Points for a completely wrong bet
1 Points for a properly guessed match winner
2 Points for a correctly guessed match winner and goal difference (Winning team/Losing team)
4 Points for a exactly guessed match result

Predict away elf, then you will understand...either that or Burdock is going to explain with a long post.

Well then, we are up an running in the Prediction League, and it's an ominous start by our champion mfc1876, who tops the League with 35 points along with goodison. Great starts too for Tats and our Cup winner last season, Raff. Best of the newbies to the Prediction League is elftone1.

At the foot of the table, adam is unfortunately replicating the form of his beloved Arsenal.... it'll get better Albi... on both counts!

The new points scoring system seems to be fair enough and I'm sure will make for a good competition.

Frustratingly, there is now an International break. This new Prediction League version, doesn't allow me to throw in different fixtures (such as the international games) to keep it going on weeks like this, as it is designed to rigidly follow the nominated Leagues. A slight disadvantage perhaps, but no big deal.... it just gives adam a another week off to lick his wounds. :D

So the next games are in 2 weeks time. An advantage, of course, with the new version is that you can now go on and predict your scores at any time you wish... without having to wait for me to put up fixtures..... they are all on there. There are loads of options for you if you have a fiddle with the control panel.

After the next set of matches, I will look to making a start with the Knockout Cup... a few old grudges to be settled perhaps. :)

Winners bonus is a choice of a couple of cans/bottles of pilsner, ale, porter/stout or weizen. None of which available in the uk... unless at a specialists shop with stupid prices.

Increased amount may be sent, depending of mood of sender.

Winner will be notified by pm asking where to send delivery to, you should recieve your package within 5 days.

The leagues are scored individually. Kudos points and a tap on the back for finishing top of any of the three. Not sure if the management are doing individual comps for each.
Sure they will be along to answer soon. Tip; don't mess with them.

Now that can't be good cos I've done nowt?
Please explain...That means that none of the outcomes of the 10 matches that you have predicted on are settled yet.

Friday afternoon bump.

Also be aware that la liga has a full fixtures list to be played on tuesday, wednesday and thursday so if you are away midweek then remember to do your predictions before then.

Good luck all, not too much though.:lager:

Right, time for the Cup Draw I think.

The top 8 in the league as it stands now will all get a bye to the second round.... so through are the following:

Raff67
goodison
mfc1876
beattie
Tats
fishtoast
tommo 1971
Burdock

The rest will play off for the remaining 8 places in round 2. The only exception is cenjohn, who I have discounted, having only ever predicted on 1 game and only made 1 post on FSi. Sorry cenjohn.... we needed even numbers for the draw....

I will do the draw in the chatroom... any volunteers to pick the numbers?

Allochtony, Begbie, elftone1 and mrs_tattoo all predicted Burdocks beer bonus match correctly, all names will go into a hat and one lucky winner will be drawn out by my wee lad later tonight.

alternative prize of a knock off copy of dr.dre earphones is also available instead of beer. very decent sounding and they look the part.

I predicted the correct score as well but as posted earlier I am obviously not eligible.*shrugs*:lager:

Big mover this week was Begbie with an excellent 22 point haul. It puts him in 4th place now (even though he has only had 4 correct scores all season!). Another good week for Raff, and he extends his lead at the top to 6 points, with mfc1876 leading the chasing pack in second place.

Tommo is moving up the table too, he is another that doesn't get many correct scores (just 3!), but picks up plenty of 1 and 2 point results.

Remember to do your midweek predictions this week folks.... something new to the League this season! We will then move on to the Cup ties next weekend. I will remind folk by pm on Friday if they haven't predicted.

If you haven't played in the FSi Cup before, the rules are simple.... Predict as normal. :)

Whatever score you get for that week will be matched against your opponents score. Whoever gets the most points goes through to the next round. If there is a tie on points, then whoever gets the most 4 pointers that week will go through.... if there is still a tie, then whoever gets the most 2 pointers will go through.... if there is STILL a tie, then we will replay that particular tie on the following week!

If you fail to predict.... tough shit, your out.

If both competitors in a tie fail to predict..... please refer to FSi Prediction League Rule 21b, Paragraph c, Sub-section (iii).

Simples...ish.

steve v mrs tats
mrspeps v 2sheds
jake v mike
Begs v Greenman
Allinten v tjl

A couple of really close ties as we go into the final 2 games tonight. Current scores upated in Post #268 above.

It's curtains though for scudd, adam, mrs tats and mike..... and it will take something special now for Greenman and 2sheds to progress to Round 2.

Allochtony v RedMan.... and Allinten v tjl are both on a knife edge.

In the league, it's been a great week so far for fishtoast (38 points) and elftone (36 points), with Raffs lead now cut to a single point.
