Regardless of who the mods are, should the members not have a bigger say in how things are run? I haven't thought about the mechanics, but surely it's worth discussion?
It's the 'Closed Season', I'm bored.
Talk about it. I see the need but I also see the danger to FSi.

To me it seems the more members offer feedback on links and/or find new ones, the greater this site will become. Although it's pretty friggin amazing already :)
But surely this is the best thing any member of the site, from mod to fresh new member, can do. Helping the community get what they're here for, free fookin footy !!! :D and other good links too ;)
I respect all the mods here who put extra time into the site and thank I you all. I try and help provide links when I can, although it's usually difficult as I'm at work half the time, but I like to feel even my small contribution can help. I try and take some part in the discussions forum wise. Again that's limited by my accessibility and the all important 4th dimension, but if user (and there's 40 odd thousand of them right) participation increased it would surely ease the individual work all the mods do, and that's good for them, good for the site and thereby good for all.
As far as ideas for the site, there's a thread for that right ? It's not that popular. One could say this place is, well, pretty much already Eden :D I love it and I'm staying as long as I'm welcome :D

Great post SS, inspired me to create a new logo for the site! But you are spot on, we need more voices in the forums, there's been a few additions so far this year to the regular hardcore posters which is great, but come on chumps, get involved more.

I'm just trying to get some suggestions for next season. Good or bad, all ideas might start a discussion that will lead to an improvement. The 'Members' Voice' idea was a first stab at trying to get rid of the idea that some people can post what they like and others get an infraction for a similar post. (Tommo ). There's a good case that can be made for an 'anonymous thread', but we can all see how much it would be abused.
As I say, I'm thinking out loud, the same topic has been broached in the mods forum. To stay at the top of Net Result's 'most wanted' list, we have to be ahead of the game.

Not sure of the logistics (financial and bandwidth etc) but how about something along the lines of another 'location' with up to date links for a particular day - usually Saturdays and big match days - when the site gets overloaded?
I think there used to be something called 'FSI Blag' which was a similar idea. Or maybe we could plug the chatroom (does it still exist?) as a place to get links if anyone was late getting online on a matchday.

Even though it wont effect me, yet, i think there should be a members area for people who have donated to get links - as we all know how gridlocked it can get on big game days.
Just think its fair that paid up members get some privillages - plus it will then encourage others to donate.
As above though, could prove problematic due to having to duplicate links etc. Perhaps keep the feedback thread as it is, just a single page for links

We have a members area for donatee's already, and a few of the 'privileges' were reserved especially for them. It is a bit underused at present like, definate room for development
The links being reserved for one group of members, however, is totally against the ethos of the site

ive been away so dont know how the site held up over last few months but remeber the chatroom on match days when site was crashing only too well ,we did our best but it was chaos for you as well as us ,i know we got the links to most matches to some of you but given the caotic level of activity and the non members or idiotic members who would jump on and fill space with rubbish it was really hard going ,i hope we can keep main site functioning in a way that means we never need to return to times like that ,
my thoughts are the members make the sight ,admin aand the mods work really hard and put in a lot of tiime but without members (and such great members)there would be no point
ideas from members i welcome whole heartidly ,the actual idea may not be feesable for a variety of reasons ,but it could plant an idea in our heads and trust me if we think anything is possiable we dont give up till we find a way
so if any of you do post ideas etc dont think oh so much for that they ask and do say nothing ,our little brains will be working on them all
could i also sugest as well as sugesting things to improve the site if there is anything you dislike (dont just complain for the sake of it please) or think is not needed then again we will give it consideration
but as i said above sometimes we are restricted in what we can or cant do for a lot of reasons some obvious others not ,but i know and can asssure you we are always looking not only to keep this as the best site but make it even better and any new ideas from our wonderfull members are as far as im concearned always welcome as long as they as constructive oh and no we wont be giving a new ferrari to the winner of the prediction league ;)

How about timing out during match days. It seems that a lot of members, once they have their links, keep on the site but do nothing. Maybe give a warning that if inactive for 15 minutes then they will need to log in again. This may keep the server free for any late comers.
Just thinking aloud, maybe nonsense.

Its the forums that cause a bottleneck which is why the LIVE STREAMS page was created!
Correct me if I'm wrong here but since the LIVE STREAMS page has been there we havent actually crashed on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon? We cant do anything about tens of thousands of requests flying in slowing down the site and the odd time out occuring for a few people cannot be helped..
FSi is for anyone and everyone, we will not pamper to the few or stop anyone, no matter where they are based from getting the information they require.. The site will be nuked before anything like that happens!

also to add there will never be a time where donators get a area for links that other members cannot see as this site is for free football and the donations as welcome as they are will get you a few add ons like trying out software before general roll out .
free football for all as some people cannot afford to donate but still want the links
Dr_Jae
01-07-2008, 12:34 AM
I heartily agree with the "no privileged links for donators" policy. I have donated in the past, and I wouldn't have contributed if the site wasn't about free football - the fact is I chose to donate at times when it suited me (when I was flush!) but still got the benefits of the site when I was skint. If I was forced to donate to get the links, then I'd find another site.
Also - yes Scudd, the live streams page seems to have really eased the pressure on the server. The forum's gone down less since it was there, and even if it does go down the links are still accessible.
I like the idea of an anonymous section, but it would be abused. More flaming than a night out with GG.
As for my members voice, in my opinion there does need to be a bit more consistency, and some mods do seem to be able to break the (admittedly less important) rules. Text talk is one that springs to mind. Newbie's get pulled up on that all the time.

Sure you're not confusing pissed regional cyber babble with text speak?? That is not frowned upon in the slightest...
Dr_Jae
01-07-2008, 06:38 PM
Hi Julio, no - the pissed regional cyber babble is fine by me. It took me fucking ages to work out what anarl meant, but I'm fine now.
It's not often, and it is such a minor quibble, but there is definite text talk from mods very occasionally.
It's never full on "gr8" style, but some mods slip into "n" for "and" style word shortening. There's also the "lol", "tbh", "imo" bits, which I'd count as text talk, but are probably generally seen as OK.

i may be wrong but tbh is a bit like tbc accepted ,widely recognised abreviations and gtf well would you rather we all typed in full
the diferance is the solely text talk short form of writing th r u , gr8 , u2 type of thing that cause us the concern , i remeber before my technical (note not tech :) ) problems laid me off having a discussion about this with a few members , i ask you all to remeber we (the fsi team) have to read every post every day after a while "ho r u ok 2 da m8 ty 4 da hlp " becomes a bit much as i am sure most of you understand
i will also put another propective English is not the first language of all members (jullio and tatts for example :) sorry guys ) and the short text talk abreviations are not always as easy to translate as you may think for some people ,i know i have had to explain a few too some of our non english speaking members at times
the otherthing as Scudd likes to correctly remind us all we have a full keyboard ,bought and paid for lets use it all
i know we can all be guilty of the odd abreviation ,not making excuses but remeber mods ,admin may be doing 3 or 4 things at the time they are replying so if we do slip up please forgive us but also understand why we try to discourage text talk there are more reasons than us just being a bit narky honest

The Inbreeding 'Myth'
The population of Norfolk has a reputation for being inbred (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Inbred), but this is generally undeserved. The law making it illegal to marry anyone other than your cousin (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Cousin) was repealed in 1992. However, at least the residents of Norfolk can take some consolation for not being as bad as the Orkney (http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Orkney) Islands when it comes to inbreeding. It is however, true that the residents of Norfolk often have 'special hugs' with their pigs.
