There may well be less streams, but I'd expect the true football fans in China to carry on putting matches on P2P.
"The fans will have to endure the pain of the change," WinTV chief executive Song Zheng, who refused to disclose the fee his company paid, told a news conference on Monday. "Let's say goodbye to free Premier League. No more free lunch in the future."
Song, whose station has just 40,000 subscribers, said he was confident of winning over enough viewers among Chinese obsessed with football and the English top flight.
Sounds like Guangdong are going to become the $ky $ports of China. Football for the privileged. £12/month is steep in this country imo.

I pay a ridiculous amount of money to see EPL games (well, to assure myself of seeing at least some TOON games), and find that most of my viewing is done through the links provided here. If it turns out that this change becomes a problem next season, I'd be willing to pay for viewing here.
Yes of course this has been a free site, but planning for the worst-case well in advance can be a useful thing.
Now if somebody would just put a timer feature in the players so I could....:D

I hope this isn't true!! If it is let's hope our Chinese friends
can work something out for the fsicrew, FOC of course.8)
Worst case scenario if they do have to buy TV rights
then it may well be cheap,If that's so we might have to subscribe
from them, it's got to be cheaper than Blighty.
Let's hope the advertisers pay for the rights and we can
resume normal service, right fsicrew.;) 8) :D

Doesnt this only effect China though. ESPN Star Sports would still continue to show the EPL through South East Asia but they wouldnt have the rights in China.

At the end of the day, whilst there's a site to put links on, and a person to stream, its always going to be around.

its like the yanks strategy ... first get people hooked for free and then let them pay for it
redicoulous ... i don't think we have to fear the games not being on P2PTV

With over a billion people in China I'm sure at least a few of them will be able to figure something out for their football-loving buddies overseas.

As a Yank who just discovered this site, I can tell you I pay my cable provider to watch my home town teams in MLB, NHL and NBA. Alas... No MLS team in Philly... yet... The NFL is the only US league that you don't have to pay to watch the local team... as of today anyway...
I also pay to watch some Prem Games on Fox Soccer Channel as well as just to watch Footie in general on GOLTV as well as some Spanish Channels in the Philadelphia area that carry soccer/football...
Anyways... very cool site! I used it the other day to watch the US U-20 Nats play Uruguay in FIFA U-20 WC... My Nats crashed and burned today vs. Austria but was able to find that game on a Spanish TV channel...

Thanks LL - Just added TVU and have picked up SopCast as well as PPMate and TVAnts over the last couple of days...
Know this is not the forum for it... but can one watch any Coca Cola Football League on P2P services? Since I don't have any true rooting allegiance, other than what yanks might play abroad, I sort of like the lower leagues for some reason...??

Owls Head, welcome in. Just on the U20's, it sounds like you have dish or direct? If you have dish, every game is on ESPNU ch 148, if you didn't already know. Anyway, time to hook up with the Villa, don't you think? Or, if you like the fizzy pop league, then maybe you should just become a Birmingham City fan...they'll be back there next year!:D

Actually what i have is digital cable... (not dish or direct tv)
so you pay a cable bill for local sports stuff, like MLB (Phillies) NHL (Flyers) etc.
You can pay extra and get other sports stations... so for Footie I can pay for Fox Soccer (which is big on Prem and Serie A) and GolTV is another one I pay for... Plus there are also Spanish channels (so yesterday watched the U - 20 US Nats on TeleFutura)
But... you just get the games they give you (no choice).
So I could not get the game the other night and used TVAnts on my computer to pick up a Chinese feed for US vs. Uruguay, because none of the soccer channels I pay for on digital cable had it... (of course if they did... I wouldn't have been watching on my computer screen...)
But... again, I think finding Footie stream will just give me more options than i currently have with my digital cable package...
as an aside... the reason i don't just go dish etc. is that the local cable company (Comcast) owns the Flyers and the Sixers (NBA) so they block their sports channel locally on Dish... ain't that something... so if you wanted to watch the hometown US local teams you would need cable and Dish and that is too much coin for moi...

don't worry. there will be plenty of champions league and uefa cup links. you can select the match you wanna watch on this site, unlike the on tv where you're basically stuck with what the station gives you, or pay-per-view. might be on chinese channels (as well as english) but better than nothing, eh?

No problem, i watch Spanish channels in the states all the time... (don't speak it) watched some of today's Copa America final in Spanish...
to tell the truth... doesn't really matter the sport i am watching... i have watched so many... different games and sports in my 45 years... i can do me own play by play... me wife thinks i missed my calling...

Was it just me or were all the ESPN links on TV Ants down for the Community Shield? Could be the start of a big problem because the ESPN/Star Sports links were superb and presumably they would be the ones to be banned.

ESPN no longer have the rights to show live Premier League Football. The rights are now with Guangdong Sports. However, when ESPN did have the rights it didn't stop Guangdong Sports taking the feed from ESPN but somehow I doubt ESPN will be doing the same as they are a globally known name.

I was just browsing the links for the weekend and noticed the absence of Guangdong and Shanghai sports, am I being a bit premature in thinking we have lost these channels for the time being?

It's well documented that ESPN have lost the rights to show live Premiership Football in china - and therefore a lot of the other channels who were using the feed from ESPN such as Shanghai, Guangdong, Shaanxi, Shandong etc have also gone too. But it's still early days and I'm sure we will still have quite a few channels to watch. This weekend is going to be trial and error as we check out new and old links so please bear with us. However I'm sure there will be enough channels to watch the games on. And yes more links will be added throughout the night and tomorrow.

I was just wondering if there is anything sinister with ESPN 'losing' the rights to the prem or maybe it was just a financial decision. Whatever the reason, it seems StarSports have got their hands on more games this season.
Anyone know if there are any other notable broadcasters in 'the east' (I don't mean Norwich!) that have premiership rights along the lines of the Sly and Septic split?
