reason the northern Ireland assoc. threatening to go to arbitration is because FIFA, this month, haven being written to again by the north, said they are happy for the situation to continue as is. Players can choose who they want to play for.
North ireland association wasting their time as FIFA run the international gamefull stop. And if a player wanted to play for the republic, why would any northern manager want to have anything to do with him anyway?

Returning to the original post - I, and this is not some smug arsed glory hunting statement, am used to seeing my team do pretty well in most competitions. Having England, for me, is a window into the sense of proper footballing excitement of "will they? won't they?" that i imagine a much larger community of football fans enjoy.
When England win, i find myself feeling more triumphant than when United win. England gives me a more rounded experience; therefore, i love internationals for that reason. Friendly games are a waste of time though.

The Republic of Ireland can poach N. Ireland players because of a loop-hole created as an unintentional consequence of the Good Friday Agreement. People born in Northern Ireland can choose to be British or Irish. This does not apply to people born in the Republic of Ireland, so the FAI have an unfair advantage.
The question of a player 'wanting to play for the Republic' would not arise if it was not for this loop-hole. I'm quite sure Robbie Keane would have preferred to play for one of the top international sides. The question did not arise as he was not deemed 'eligible' for any other side.

anyway it's detracted from the original point, which is that many fans have no interest in international football.
In fact i'd love a major polling company to find that out, how many fans really care about their international team? To the point of being as upset when they do not do well as when their club isn't doing well.

I'm caught between two stools on the subject. I enjoy the international matches but agree that the disruption to the Premier Leagues is unwelcome. Maybe, as mentioned earlier in the thread, the timing of the internationals needs to be looked into.
For many non-Premiership teams (and their supporters), the international break brings revenue and a chance to 'strut their stuff' on TV.

When would you like a poll on this -NOW? when none of the home teams are doing well, OR?after say ENGLAND WIN THE EURO COMP , the poll result would be totaly different ,it not rocket science if you poll fans when there team are playing poor they would probable say they are not interested ,If you had to ask the Spanish to poll whither they want internationals the result would be a overwhelming YES ,the fans that would so no present time would be the same fans having street parties if England won the euros ,To me international matches are about identity and pride of your nation, Listen to the Scotland fans for example the pride and passion of the Hampden roar is legendary a Nation behind a team and we are crap lol ,but its Scotland that are playing You should be proud of your nation ,we need to bring back the AULD ENEMY match then you would see the difference , do a poll after that ,then try tell me the fans dont want internationals

He did look the teams up though Must be some interest?
Trouble is with me its patrionism, doesnt matter what sport i am proud when England play, not necessarily win. ( I even got excited when we got into the Hockey world cup final, we lost but....)Its all about entertainment, now entertain me England.
