Playoffs?
Still not convinced about playoffs. It makes a bit of a mockery of the meaning '3rd place'. Not so much in the Championship this year as it was pretty close on points with Reading and Forest but in League One, Bournemouth were 16 points shy of 3rd place Huddersfield. Now all it takes is for Huddersfield to have a couple of bad games and the whole seasons for shit. If you finish third then you should go up no questions as you've spent the whole year bloody earning it. As it turned out MK Dons and Peterborough are still standing, who both finished 8 and 9 points adrift of the third place Huds. I think i would be pissed if i was a Huddersfield fan and also from a football fans point of view one of these 2 teams will be promoted and they aren't going to provide as good as football as if the actual 3rd place team was promoted.

I agree, the playoffs are bollocks. They're supposed to add a bit of excitement at the end of the season and it's a chance to play at Wembley etc. Sod that! If my team finish 3rd next season then Wembley can fuck right off lol! I haven't even watched any of the play off matches.

Don't think they'll be done away with anytime soon though as chairmen would always vote to keep them. Always a chance you can go up into the big bucks league even if you have a mediocre season and that's what it's all about now... big bucks.

Just to totally contradict myself though I don't really want to see a Welsh team in the Premier League so I'm rooting for Reading lol!

The other side of the argument, of course, is that it keeps the regular season alive for so many other teams to try to get into a play-off place, right up to the end. There would be so many more totally meaningless games without it, and therefore makes it more exciting for more fans of more clubs.

The Premier League has European places to keep the interest going, although I know there is no play-off system involved. Perhaps this will be a future the move by the FA?

Total pisser if you finish well clear in third, I agree.... but that's the trade-off I suppose.

Why even try to finish third at all it's meaningless - might as well finish sixth and try and fluke it. That plus you'll be watching an inferior team go up. It's silly system. But you're right - if it was man u in sixth and we got up in the playoffs i'd be stoked

I think that you have to have the mindset that 1st and 2nd is everything. After those two places, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th doesn't matter... as long as you are in there. The incentive for third place is purely that you are less likely to be looking over your shoulder nervously, worrying that you will miss out on the play-offs.

Don't think Man U fans will be too worried about 6th place in any competition....

I still don't agree but the powers that be obviously do. I suppose every team knows the situation before the season starts so tough shit if you're not the champions or runners up I guess lol!

Perhaps they should amend the system so that any third placed team that is miles in front of the fourth placed team by a certain number of points should automatically go up?

I know it'll never happen but I do like that idea! Maybe if a team had say an advantage of 10 points or more then there's no play offs for that division.
