'Piracy' student loses extradition case

Richard O'Dwyer, 23, set up the TVShack website which US authorities say hosts links to pirated copyrighted films and television programmes.

Mr Cooper (lawyer) said the website did not store copyright material itself and merely directed users to other sites, making it similar to Google.

Will be an interesting case to keep an eye on considering its basically what FSi do. There will no doubt be an appeal and hopefully a judge who knows his own country's copyright law will see it as it is.

read that yesterday and i cant see what the lads done wrong , ok h told people where to watch stuff but is that against the law ? Not im my opinion it aint . If they do extradite and prosecute then every search engine owner on the internet should be prosecuted cos they are basicaly doing the same thing

thing is where did he find the links ? Probley off google so basically he is just forwarding information that hes been told off someone else . So shouldnt they be going after the person who first put the links up in the first place ? Not the guy who passed on the info he was told ? Load of bullshit

Google etc remove things from search results if the copyright holder has a case. He probably didn't remove them when requested. Like us.

does anyone know where his server was ?
i tend to think he may have been on a good all usa one (twats) hence the ability to seek extradition
after all a couple of link and torrent sites have had action taken in several european countries and only those hosting material have to the beswt of my knowledge came a croper
one site in particular was completely cleared based on the very basis that they were only re posting material that can be found using any search engine
as ive said before its like a car stopping asking for directions to a bank and you being done for giving directions because its easier than trying to locate and charge the car ocupants who went on to hold up the bank
good swiss servers thats the answer or perhaps in light of current affairs Iran .com anyone
