To continually compare that BrassEye is unacceptable. On so many levels breasseye was better, and at least it was in your face and didn't care whose nose it got up. Peter Kay is basically agreeing that he shares an audience with all the shows he was trying to take the piss out of.
I don't think he's ever shyed away from the fact he likes popular culture. The fact you don't does not make it any less creditable for what it is.
I fucking hate the X Factor but still have to sit through it every so often and I thought it was a decent piss take of shows like that.
OK forget the Brass Eye stuff. I was trying to highlight that it was satirical. I think people were taking it on face value. If you do that it was just as bad as X Factor et al.
If I was being critical I would say it was too long and after sleeping on it I would give it 4/5. Same as Max and Paddy and That Peter Kay Thing (except the Ice Cream Van one 5/5). Phoenix Nights I would give 5/5 as it was fantastic and is in my top ten TV programs of all time. But I think that is due to the casting as much as the writing.
I don't think it was shit. Maybe people expected too much?

Pheonix Nights was very good but Max and Paddy sucked. In terms of satire it wasn't funny enough - ala Spinal Tap, or frank and vulgar - ala Brass Eye.
Peter Kay was basically saying 'have you noticed how on X factor that... blah blah blah'. It was too non offensive, as if he didn't wanna burn any bridges. I'd of liked to have seen him bemoan the producers of these shows. The judges don't run the show they just sit there and get cleverly edited.

Fair enough but that's not his style though. I wasn't expecting it to be so. Don't forget is was on before 9 so there is a limit to how far he could have taken it.

Two sources, one of which was just a summery of the show.
You are on your own sharky, all on your own.

There was a comment underneath.
I'm used to it. Ask Peter the Cowboy, my imaginary friend; he's not talking to me either as he thought it was gash and also believes global warming is fact.

At the bottom.
Thank god someone has the gahones to take on and satarise a sad sterile country that we are living in. They may well repair the banks, but over a decade they've ruined our sense of humour; cheers Peter for remindinging us where it is. Political Correctness only subjugates the weak and complacent.
Andy, Liverpool, UK
Peter Kay - What a Genius - Best I have seen on tv for years.
Debbie , Birmingham, England
Granted he can't spell reminding , which is a bad sign (although the use of subjugates is commendable), but there's shit loads more if you google Peter Kay and look at the news results.

Andy from Liverpool is clearly a moron, his post makes no sense. Everyone moans at talent shows, and our sense of humour isn't ruined...? And what has political correctness got to do with X Factor?? Its a public vote. Im going to hunt down Andy and rub his face in his own shit

I think Sharky is right, I was expecting an awful lot seeing as I have been waiting for a new series of Phoenix Nights for years. There were a few good laughs in the programme but it was just toooooooooo long.

I think that was the problem - it was too long. Maybe it would have worked as a weekly half hour show? I suppose we could give him some credit for trying something different.
I hate to say it, but the funniest bits for me were Pete Waterman's over enthusiasm/dementia ('best thing I have heard for 30 years.....') and one of the cheeky girls saying 'stupid bastard' and telling a guy his singing was 'as flat as a witches tits'.
The other problem is, the bar was raised so high with phoenix nights it's hard to equal - especially without Spikey and Fitzmaurice on board. Anyone know why he 'ditched' them - as they also worked on 'that peter kay thing' as well (worth a look if you have never seen it).
