O2 Throttling on Peak Times
The last few nights when I have wanted to watch the football, I have been having serious speed problems. I check my speed every day and usually it's 7 meg, however since Monday the speed has dropped in the evening to 0.5-1meg. Just to warn people according to forums, o2 are now doing this as standard practice on peer to peer or BBC iplayer etc. The time concerned is between 4.00pm to 12.00am (8 hours). It doesn't seem to matter if you are a new customer or old one like me, nearly 2 years, they will be enforcing it.
At the moment I am busy saving results ready to have a rumble with them in the next few days as to me it breaks the unlimited contract I took out.
Really just a warning to anyone thinking of joining them be aware. Will keep you informed once I speak to customer services.

Quite right, Jake. Keep a log of speeds. Try to find out which speed test O2 accepts as their standard. They may try to dismiss your claim if it wasn't recorded on 'their' speed test.

I get torrent downloads crushed by bt from about 12pm til 12am but usually football streaming seems ok?
Have you gone over your "unlimited usage" which usually means about 80-100gb. I've done it once or twice. Damn box sets. Of porn.

Just been on the phone, they have changed all the packages now, without informing me, ****s.They are throttling speeds only on p2p and bit torrents. Got 20gb a month usage, which is crap, do that in a night. Looks like a new isp, however he said they are all doing it, too congested the bandwidth. Will be interesting to see what offcom make of this, i hope.
Will have a look around the next few weeks to see what's best available.
Kept saying to them i was watching itv website and you tube videos not footy or downloading films.

That means that they have changed your contract. You shouldn't be bound by anything that you signed up to.
Forgetting about your download limit. I've never seen an ISP that will tell you what the 'fair usage' is on an unlimited connection.
'Unlimited'? Kiss my arse. It's about time that that their proper figures are as advertised.

Tbh we have never even come close to using the 60g with ten days left till the next due bill we have only used 20g .

Then http would be unaffected which means you wouldn't have shit results on a speedtest. They are telling porkies.

Well after searching lots of forums, it turns out this started 6 days ago The deal is between 4pm and 12am they are throttling and basically sod all can be done. They will limit streaming of say iplayer to 800kbps on the basics package. 8mbs on the next all-rounder. However p2p will be throttled to 50kbps at peak times and 100-250 kbps at off peak. That’s that ****ed then. Even on there top package its only 250 kbps.
Turns out I am ok for downloads no problem, they are not monitoring that so it technically is still unlimited. So just have to download off peak.
As far as the streaming footy goes i am shafted, no options. I even told them this morning I was using p2p like veetle and this wasn't good enough. No point losing it with the guys on the phones as think they are in line for some serious abuse next few months, they have been inundated with customer problems.
Got to look around now and have a look maybe at plusnet, thanks tats.
Trouble is according to the forums this is what all isps are planning to do.
Raff, the trouble is I tested it while watching veetle link. When I had turned veetle off it went back up to 5-6 meg.
Today I am back on 7 meg.
Even the guy on the phone said he couldn't comment but he understood my problem as he used p2p, probably on here as a member.
After all that I hope members thinking of switching to o2 will think different now,I have recommended them in the past, not now, ****s.
