Not so much software help....
I can't figure out the best section to put this in so here will have to do.
I'm currently using sky broadband and have had no issues whatsoever with them until recently. My connection has become very erratic, disconnecting whenever it feels like it, speeds dropping to the equivalent of dial up!!
I have been through every level of support with them and quite frankly I've had enough, they just cannot seem to get it sorted.
My question is, BT have enabled FTTC in my area and I can now get infinity if I want it. BUT???
With BT being so anal about P2P are the streams through this site affected as they are mostly P2P streams? I know if I use P2P software to download stuff I will only get decent speeds overnight but my son uses the streams on this site every weekend to watch whatever football he can.
I have been told that I can expect speeds of 36-38 meg with infinity compared to 5-6 that I get with sky when it works which isn't very often these days but if it will stop my lad getting his weekend footie fix then I won't be very popular.
Anyone on infinity who can tell me if the streams are still watchable?

I've got Infinity and have no problems whatsoever watching streams. The higher d/l speed helps prevent buffering.
Having said that, it was pretty bad on Tuesday evening but I think everybody experienced that.

Thanks, thats all I need to know.
With the speeds I'm getting on sky I struggle to open google homepage!!!
I think I will be going to BT, it's really only the traffic management policy that put me off before.

I use standard BT and get around 4-5mb at best - but i find I am able to get sopcast up and running smoothly even with the lowered daytime and evening speed.
Just keep in mind their fair usage thing, for me it's around 100gb in a month and I have breached it a few times from downloading, streaming football, iPlayer and TvCatchUp - so with a much larger speed it would be wise to get a bandwidth monitor just to make sure you're not going to go over that limit.

A 'shot' of my line average stats over a week. The speed doesn't appear to be throttled at any time.

FUP on infinity unlimited is something like 300Gb, I don't think I'll exceed that!
Even if I did I've been told they just charge you extra per 5GB or something like that. It would take a lot of use to go over 300Gb anyway. I am a heavy user but not that heavy. I would get a bandwidth monitor though just to be on the safe side.

300gb is a mammoth amount. You'd be hard pressed to exceed that.
If the FUP is like mine, when i went over I had a 1mb limit put in place in the day which did massively affect streaming and such. That lasted a month, and if i then went over it again, i would be charged extra.
Damn 1080p rips!

Is someone from BT reading this thread or something!!!
In between posting they decided to ring me and offer me infinity free for three months. I'm tempted to ring sky now tell them exactly how far up their arse they can shove their broadband.
300Gb might be mammoth but back in dial up days 500Mb was huge, at 56k it took me 20-30 minutes to download a decent music track. Imagine what you can do with 40 Megs coming down the pipes!!!!

It depends on the speed that the other end can upload at.

Newsgroups should be fast, downloading from filehosting sites should give a decent speed too. P2P might be a bit of a problem if they are not well seeded.

Aye. Torrents can be great and you can reach your seeded % a lot quicker. 8 - 10 Meg upload speed.

They can be great but as I said in my first post BT are useless when it comes to P2P, off peak should be good though. I tend to use filehosts and newsgroups more these days as I don't have to worry about seeds.

Same as that worth the few quid a month to get a film in 20mins and not seed even on my slow 7meg with O2.
