New ram problem
Anyone on here come across this problem before its doing my head in searched the net high and low but no answers or ideas.
I recently had a problem with my laptop which on getting to the first screen showing AMD Turion badge would not go any further. After talking to a friend they suggested it was probably the ram, so i got some new ram yesterday. After installing it , it now goes to the next screen checks the system and then comes up with
System Cofiguration Data updated
ERROR
System configuration Data Read
Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to setup .
F1 does nothing F2 goes to the bios and thats it.
It beeps twice doing this which usually means ram problem but its definitely the right one.
Any ideas or expierience welcome, thanks.

I know it might sound daft and not meant to be cheeky. But did you install it at home, holding all of the ram in your hands. I only say because of any static that might have been built up. Especially if you are on a carpet.
EDIT: try removing and blow any dust away that might have gotten into the socket and try again.

Cheers imperial , yes did it at home but on a table, made sure i earthed myself before touching it and didnt touch the gold contacts. Just fitted some in my desktop from the same place and worked straight away.
Thinking it might be faulty now.

Yeah its just to rule out the silly stuff first, computers have the habit of making you look a right twat when up grading stuff. But yeah there is always the possibility that the RAM was already faulty.

Try memtest86. Download here: http://www.memtest86.com/ burn to CD and boot PC with disc in drive, let it run for several passes, will tell you if you have RAM issues.

Thanks mike tried that and it wont even start that, disc spins but no luck tried burning 2 in case. Tried the old ram and now just black screen. New ram just comes up with same message as earlier cant get any further, looks like a trip to local pc shop tomorrow, maybe they can put some other ram in and try.

Are the wee 'arms' that hold the RAM in place clicking to the 'closed' position on their own when you press the RAM in?
Edit: I've never looked inside a laptop so I'm not sure how the RAM is held in place.

18 months but its a cheapo medion with rubbish support. Had to phone them to check i was going to get the proper ram as it doesnt show up on crucial website.
Checked the clamps does seem to be ok but will have a play with it a bit more.
Thanks guys

..the two beeps mean that when your windows is trying to load it accesses information stored on your hard drive and it's not getting any info back meaning hard drive failure.

Thanks scudd.
Had a go at the motherboard battery, after i took it out i tried again and got 2 extra messages:
Warning 0251 System cmos checksum bad -default cofiguration used
and another saying previous boot incomplete .
Both disapperared after reinserting the battery.
Reading up looks like the bios ok, so had enough now down the pc shop tomorrow got to stop being a skin flint, if its still alive then.

Edit: Thanks bazzer that has been my ali today.
