I prefer a PC but my sister says that she would never buy another PC. I don't think that there is a right or wrong answer here. It's just down to personal preference.

Well a Windows PC will give you more value for money in terms of spec.
A mac will be the most expensive option in terms of getting a decent spec.
And a laptop is a laptop.

Cheers guys, well at least I know that I can rule out Apple. Need to think about a laptop or PC though. The mobility of a laptop would really come in handy but wouldn't mind the performance of a PC. Need to think it through.

Not true, RAM and hard drive are easy to upgrade.
Or wait for the Exo PC Slate, it has a Windows 7 backend skinned with their own UI. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Gonna kick the ass of the ipad.

i had a laptop for 3 years but decided earlier this year to buy a desktop and haven't looked back, you can get much higher spec for less then you would pay if you bought it on a laptop, the only downside is the mobility

Best of both worlds is to get a decent pc and a cheap laptop. Always depends on what you want it for?
Gaming, graphics, animation, and all that fun stuff will need a good pc. If you just wanna browse the net, use word and load your system with a truck load of porn then go for something a bit more expendable.

So I have decided, it will be a laptop, the mobility of it would suit me a whole lot more.
But, when do I buy? Now, before the VAT rise in January, or wait till January and see if something comes up in the sales?

a decent netbook can be bought for around £200 (all i use these days) and the rest of the budget could go on a decent pc (desktop)
