Martinez snubbing Villa?
Is he really wanting to carry on at Wigan and try and build the club up, which shows great loyalty or does he sense something wrong at Villa.
Villa last season seemed at team in turmoil and with an ageing squad and little investment has Martinez thought Wigan had the better potential??

He used to play for Wigan so there's probably some loyalty there, but I agree with Villa being a bit of a team in turmoil, something isn't right there.
Love the Mick McCarthy signature, I'm glad Wolves and Mick stayed up

Whelan and Martinez go back a long way, and are good friends by all accounts... refreshing for a Premier League club.
I think it's great he's staying.

I think if Villa went in for him 4-5 years ago when they was stronger squad wise he would have gone.

Villa would never have looked at him sideways 4 or 5 years ago. They were always after big names.

Certainly more trophies and higher crowds.
Martinez said he felt he owed the chairman loyalty, and he is right. Wigan were crud last season and only survived by the skin of their teeth.
Maybe he has made the right call - if rumors are believed then Young is off to United and Downing off to Pool - it really doesn't leave much. Agbo is a good player, but he was either injured or plan crap last season. Outside of the few younger players breaking in, I can see them struggling around the bottom of the table next season.
Losing Brad is also a big loss. If the money for Young and Downing is good then maybe a few players can come in a address the problems. Talk of Charlie Adam going to "big clubs" but he is perfectly suited for a team like Villa - he simply isn't "big club" quality.

The funny thing is villa fans on villa forums are saying they never offered Martinez the job anyway and he is a smoke screen for villa to get Moyes from Everton who is and has always supposedly been their number 1 target-most dont believe it though, all villa fan forums, twitter etc are saying 100% he will be villa boss lol,if he was their number 1 target you dont go round to the 2nd,3rd,4th,5th etc to get turned down to then go back to who they say is their number 1 choice who if he went there to villa would know others have turned it down to make him feel like 6th choice etc, moyes is staying by the way 100% no matter what is in papers later

Yeah I know, the point I was trying to get at was 4-5 years ago Villa was in a much better position than they seem to be in now and the prospect of managing them would have been more attractive. Now Villa seem to be in a downward spiral.
Martinez would probably have twice the rebuilding work at Villa with twice the amount of pressure to succeed. Yes I think it nice that he is being loyal to Wigan but I don't think its as cut and dry as that. Like I said and others have said, there seems to be an underlying problem at Villa and until that is solved the club will struggle to move forward. Whilst at Wigan he has the full support of the chairman and as long as they avoid the drop there is little pressure on him.

Cant see Moyes going nowhere tbh hes doin a good job on a limited budget where he is , only one of the very top clubs could tempt him away unless he gets pissed of or bored with the same old thing each season. I like moyes as a manager tho hope he says where he is .

Moyes is a great manager but I can't see what Villa can offer that Everton don't already give him. Both clubs have to sell to buy and Everton have the younger squad and seem to have more stability, if Everton get a relatively injury free season they will be where Villa should be anyway.
