Manchester United 2010/11

Ramires, zhirkov, essien, lampard were no where in the game, essien and especially lampard probably suffered from lack of width (which you mentioned) to gain space in the middle of the park, ramires and zhirkov were poor. Brilliant decision i think by ferguson to put nani on for rafael, nearly paid off with a goal.
Brilliant save and the goal-line clearance in the first half by Evra (I think) won the match for United.
As a member of the defenders' union, I would have been disappointed if a penalty had been awarded against me for a challenge similar to Evra's. There was certainly no intent and similar challenges take place throughout the game. Some are penalised, others aren't. Man U deserved their victory.

The Berb was terrific when he came on at Upton Park, and probably feels aggrieved that he has been left out of late. He has a good chance tomorrow to make life more difficult for the manager. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he was to score tomorrow and play well. However, Fulham are in good form and should come and play with freedom. Scoring early is a must I think. I can't wait. I agree with all comments about the champions league game. It is far from over, an early Chelsea goal on Tuesday would make them favourites. It will be an epic I reckon.

The bookies must have taken a caning with Berbatov scoring first. It was a shoe-in. The performance lacked fluidity yesterday which is understandable, given he made eight changes. O Shea was solid at right back, he may be preferred to Rafael on Tuesday. Scholes was exceptional in the first half also. He was calm and assured in possession, as we'd expect, and his distribution was right on. Anderson is an enigma. What has become of the guy who amazed us in his first season? His passing has been very poor, he has all the strength of a girl guide when he shoots but, I feel with a run of games he might regain confidence.
Fergie summed Valencia up, no need to dwell on his return, it's been outstanding. SO we go into Tuesdays massive game with no injury worries and full of confidence. It will be very tough. Chelsea will be motivated and they have a great record at Old Trafford. Nani played well enough yesterday to make Fergie think hard about the team he chooses. I cannot wait.

Come on Manchester, no I mean it, the more games you have to play and the more little niggles you get, the better our chance of reeling you in.

It's a big weekend this one. Arsenal must win on Sunday. Failure to win followed by us beating Newcastle (no easy game), and it's all over bar the shouting. I fancy Arsenal to beat Liverpool. City were disgraceful on Monday, as noted by Alan Hansen writing for the beeb. That's not to say Andy Carroll wasn't impressive, he was. But since Liverpool beat us at Anfield, they have been poor. So I expect the gap to be four points on Sunday night, with equal games played.
We were outstanding over the two legs against Chelsea. I almost wish, a former contributor to this thread was still around. I wonder what he has to say about Michael Carrick now. I have always championed Carrick, not least because he was our best player in the 06-07 season, when we regained the league from Chelsea. He was also instrumental in us winning the champions league the following year. It has taken him a long time to recover from Rome and THAT misplaced pass against Barca. But a new contract, and the return of Valencia, (who's always available for those raking balls from Carrick) has brought about a change in him. Spurs and West Ham fans know what he is capable of. I'm delighted to see him back playing the way he can. You can be sure Fabio Capello is taking notice.

Carrick was unreal on tuesday night. Dont think ive ever seen a performace like it from him. But he is a quality player and ive always said that about him. The giggs-carrick combo in the middle of the park is growing on me too. As you mentioned there ruud, im delighted to see valencia back to his best as well. If we can overcome city tomorrow, i think we have a very realistic chance of the treble. But we need alot of luck and too sustain the momentum we have going.
The ban on rooney has really united, united if you like. Fergie has restored the us again them mentality into the squad. Plus it will mean rooney will be two games fresher for the run in.

yeah me too - when he's good he's good - when he's bad he's fucken awful. Valencia makes such a huge difference - one of Fergies best buys for me considering he was playing at Wigan i think it was? How the hell did Wigan get a player like him? I remember a few rumblings saying he only looked good cause it was Wigan and that he couldn't hack it at United but boy has he proved everyone wrong. He adds a certain flow in attack that lends itself to other players as well like....i dunno...Carrick. I've always backed Carrick

you houlda been a politician
yeah, we paid a lot for valencia. 15 million it was I think. Unted players think he is the next best player in the world. I can see why, he can do everything. He has the goods, he will be signed to a mega deal this summer. Rooney type wages to ensure he stays put.

I'm disappointed today. We started really well. Our midfield was on top. The first Berba chance was more a great save than a miss, but the second was disgraceful. It's as bad a miss as I have seen in an important game for a long time. Credit to City for coming back into the game, because after 30 minutes they looked very average. I'm not sure about the Scholes red. Both of them had eyes only for the ball. It was an accident, maybe a yellow would have been fair.
There was a bit of tiredness, which is understandable after two massive games with Chelsea. This was evident in Carricks pass. His return to form and his performances against Chelsea will see him forgiven. For the statisticians, yesterday was only the third time Ferguson has lost a domestic cup semi final. The other losses being against Chelsea in the league cup a few seasons ago and Everton in the F.A. Cup two years back.
They will get over it quickly. A European semi to come and a great chance to win premier league title number twelve. No real injury worries. Life is rosy at the moment. City fans will shout and sing, until Stoke or Bolton beat them in the final. Roll on tuesday and another massive game.
