Long lasting fan
Hya, I am 75 years of age and started watching my home town team (Fleetwood Town) at their first match after the war in 1946. I had 20 years playing from 1951 to 1971 in the local leagues and nowadays due to disability log into a great podcast that the club have giving a running commentary of all their matches, being an old fishing port the programme is called the codcast. We are at present in a playoff place in the Blue Square Premier and are looking for a 5th promotion in 7 years. Ask any fan who we are and the reply will be........COD ARMY !!!!!!!!

A link to the Fleetwood Town website for all the haddocks and other non-cods out there.
Welcome to FSi, Codge. Please post some of your experiences and memories from your 75 years. It would be interesting.

Many thanks friends
Hi, Many thanks for your kind comments......Things that have stood out to me over the years??? 1947 travelled to Bradford City first round of FA Cup lost 9-0 oh heck. The recent building of the new £4.5 million stand with offices for business, boxes at £30 a seat, state of the art changing rooms and a fantastic restaurant on the top deck. I have gone down on my disab scooter and watched the genesis of this during the past few months and today the boxes and restaurant are open for the first time. Come on you CODS !!!! Have a look on our website at the pics.

Hi, Noticed you have back problem and waiting for op. Hope everything goes in your favour. I turned op on spine down 14 years ago and have never regretted it. All the best fellow Cod.

I don't mean to be funny and please don't take this the wrong way but are you in a disabled scooter because of your back? If so how can you not regret not having it? It might have worked!
Just worrying times at the mo that's all cos it looks like I need this op but at the same time I can't afford to take the time off work :S

Hi, The op would not have cured the problem but could have halted the degeneration. There was too much chance of total paralysis as a result of the op. Surgeon said go home and discuss with family. Every one of family said No only one said Yes. I was one of the Nos. So I turned it down. The degenarion over the 14 years since has been such that I consider it a good decision, plus the fact that I was 61 when I made the decision. Had I been young I might have thought differently. All the best with your deliberations.

I see your point.
Don't mean to sound patronising here but it's nice to have someone on here your age. I'm looking forward to hearing tales of what it was like to go to the football in years gone by. I bet you got loads of great stories!
For instance have you ever seen any of the old greats play in the flesh as it were? Bobby Charlton, Stanley Matthews, Bobby Moore and from a personal/selfish point of view Wilf Mannion? How did you get to away games what with there being no motorways etc? Bet it took ages lol!
What do you think of today's game compared to yesteryear? I personally am becoming disillusioned with it because of the amount of money involved and most players being completely out of touch with reality.
Good luck at Kidderminster next Friday. Hopefully they might be overtired after entertaining Darlo on the Tuesday prior lol!

Hi, Yes saw quite a few of the greats...Mathews, Finney, John Charles, Nat Lofthouse and lots more. Played in same team as Jimmy Armfield in the Army in 1954/55. There were never any of these studs up fouls in thiose days, must have been some sort of mutual respect. Good to hear from you and lots of good wishes to Darlo when they play Kiddy.

I've merged these two threads and moved them here so Codge & Co can share some of their experiences with us. It would be a shame to let it disappear into the midst of the 'Say hello' thread.

Claim to fame. I'd never shut up about it if it was me.
Edit: Now I can boast that I know somebody who played with Jimmy Armfield.
