Liverpool 2011/12
Well, we are up and running!
A good win today, but against a weakened Arsenal side, nothing to be carried away about.
Of the new boys, Carroll still doesn't look 100% to me, but gives us a direct option up front. Downing is working hard, looks lively at times and gets a few crosses in... he's doing OK. Enrique looks a sound buy and has done well so far I think. Adam looks like he's played for us for years... I like him. Henderson, I'm not convinced with at the moment... perhaps he needs a run in the side to find his feet. I thought we bought him for his energy and an ability to make things happen... haven't seen it yet. Suarez is simply world class and gives us a different dimension.
Definitely a stronger squad all round this year, hopefully we will improve as they play more together.

Must have missed the salute
I just hope it's not the highlight of our season.

The 'salute' as it were was a reference to Frimpong who did it to Lucas in the first half, so Meireles did it to Lucas
Good performance I thought. Not often you dominate possession at Arsenal AND win. Suarez and Meireles changed the game and came on at just the right time.
Anyone catch what formation we are playing. I think 4-2-3-1, the three behind Carroll keep swapping round during the match. Other people disagree and think we are playing 4-4-2.
Good luck to Soto too, leaving for the Bundesliga.

a good win yesterday.
very pleasing to watch, thought adam, suarez where top notch and always a danger to bolton.
i got a bit nervy after the first of our goals and was concerned we where about to take our foot off the peddle, but a great prformance over the ninety minutes.
still have concerns over carroll tho
is he fit?
my missus thinks he is,but for all the wrong reasons
i just think he looks a bit lost and out of sync with the rest of his teamates at times.
all in all it was great team effort, enrique had a great game and is quick moving forward.
heres to hoping we can keep the momentum

I have to agree with most of the above. At present it looks like the Mancs in first and second place with 'Pool and Chelsea fighting out third and fourth..... but it's a long season.

I think the 'issue' with Carroll is certain players at the back see him as someone to hit with long balls and when that happens, he starts to get frustrated. I'm 100% certain KD does not want that to happen, so I think we need to give Carroll some breathing space this season to settle into the team.
He scored a perfectly good goal against Sunderland (showing what he can do) but Ferdinand went down easier than Gillian Taylforth in a layby.
I'm sure the lad will be fine. Just needs to lay off the pop a bit

dalglish hasnt got a problem with his (pop) drinking according to his press conference today.
i just think his overall ability in the air gives defenders the green light to hoof balls forward which is the easy option imo.
i dont know what carrolls close ball skills are like really,as he hasnt been given enough of them to show what he can do.
i will go along with your view that is give the lad time to settle,i am very happy with the other signings so far.
a mention for downing here i was not happy at all about signing the lad in the first place, but his start has been first class long may it continue

Megansdad in humiliating retraction?
I think that Carroll is a far better 'centre man' than Crouch. Good in the air but gets a lot less fouls given against him than Crouch does. He's an 'old-fashioned' player who does his job on a match-day.
His life-style may cut his career short but will have little effect at this stage. Football writers have been struggling for headline grabbing stories since the demise of the NOW.

I've just 'hacked' your voicemail. Apparently you've had a call from somebody who said, 'I hate this thing. Call me back.'
^^ Juicy stuff.

Disappointing result at Stoke yesterday. I felt we were worthy of a win to be honest, we just couldn't take any of the numerous excellent chances presented to us.
In previous seasons, we've gone to places like Stoke, looked thoroughly awful, and been well beaten. I know we lost, but there was a different, more positive, attitude about the team. I can see us picking up far more points away from home this time round, particularly if Kenny can get Carroll firing on all cylinders.
It speaks volumes that we don't really miss Gerrard like we have done for the last few years. When he returns, he will strengthen the squad, but It will be interesting to see where he's played.

Because you lost 1-0 to stoke, your man Dalglish is moaning about referees poor performances, but you don't hear anything from the miserable git when dodgy decisions go his way, poor looser

Nah, he knows what he's doing. How often do you hear Wenger and Fergie moan about refs (apart from Webb in Fergie's case). He did actually pay tribute to Stoke as well, so it's nothing to do with being a poor loser.
I actually watched the highlights to the match on crimewatch.

He's still moaning about the refs today
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish believes there should be more communication between managers and match officials.
Dalglish met with referees' chief Mike Riley on Monday after voicing frustration at a number of decisions during his side's 1-0 loss at Stoke.
"We had an extremely informative and amicable discussion, which has given us all a better understanding of how things operate," said Dalglish.
"Maybe it's something that should happen more often."
Following his discussions with Professional Game Match Officials' general manager Riley at Liverpool's Melwood training ground, Dalglish added: "It's our job to best represent the club and protect its interests.
"But we have the utmost respect for the job referees do and have never wanted or asked for any form of preferential treatment - simply a level playing field for everyone.
"We will continue to conduct ourselves in a dignified and respectful manner at all times.

If I feel the club is suffering in any shape or form I will need to go the same route other people go and see if we can gain some benefit from that
Kenny Dalglish, speaking on Saturday
"From our perspective it was certainly worthwhile sitting down together."
During Saturday's game at Stoke, Dalglish took issue with the penalty awarded against his side for Jamie Carragher's challenge on Jonathan Walters - who then converted the resulting spot-kick - and two rejected penalty claims of their own for handball against home players.
And Dalglish said the Stoke game was far from an isolated example.
"The first four games have had contentious decisions in them and every one has gone against us," he said after the Stoke match.
"If I feel the club is suffering in any shape or form I will need to go the same route other people go and see if we can gain some benefit from that.
"I'll speak to the owners first and see what they say because the last thing I want to do is for my behaviour to impinge on the club's success in any way."
