For the police to do that, surely he would have to have been arrested and then given bail for something pretty serious? It could only be part of a bail condition to take someones passport away.

Steven Gerrard today began a course of antibiotic treatment for an infection related to an ongoing groin problem.

He is expected to remain in hospital for several days while the precautionary procedure is completed.
