Your laptop should have a VGA port on it. Just need the cable and it should work fine.

By default Windows should run it as a "duplicate display" rather than extending the desktop.

Just out of interest does anyone know if it's possible to connect a netbook with a vga output up to a analogue TV that has s-video, phono, and scart sockets?

I've seen some leads on ebay that claim to be coverter leads or something but they're about £30 so I want to know if it's likely to work before I buy one see?

Thanks in advance for any help.

From what i have read so far is that you need as S-Video output (which you get on most TV cards).

The other alternatives are probably the converters you said you've seen on ebay which do cost quite a bit.

As rev says, you will probably need a converter. You can pick them up for less than £20 on ebay (they usually come with leads and most of them are cheap Chinese imports and I'm not sure of quality)... but you can pay £50 to £60 for a better quality one (not sure whether they are worth that much though).

It depends on your laptop, most basic ones nowadays have just the vga socket (so you need the converter). If you have tv out socket, you will get away with just the right cables.

It should work OK, but what the picture quality of a footy stream will be like on the TV... I'm not sure. If you do try it.... let us know your results.

Grab one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2M-SCART-VGA-S...#ht_2145wt_982

Note it will not transmit audio, separate cable required depending on TV connections.

I do want to try it but can't see it being anytime soon when it sounds like the lead I need will be in excess of £30. I'm constantly fucking skint at the mo as it is now lol! Got a wife and son who take care of my wages for me and also got a daughter due on New Years day ha ha!

I'm lucky if I can treat myself to a fucking parmo at the mo!!!

If any richer folk go ahead and try it then tell us your findings in here

So long as you have the RCA inputs on your telly box.

If I were you I'd just get a laptop with HDMI out and a nice big LED TV!

Actually you can get 3.5mm stereo jack to phono leads also. I wonder if they'd work.

Or at a push I reckon you could connect an FM transmitter (which I already have) to the headphone jack of the laptop and tune your stereo in to the same frequency as the transmitter and have the sound come through that... fucking ingenious!

Here's an FM sender... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-FM-Radio...item255bc1e5fc
