Is capitalism in its death throes?
In my opinion the bank crisis, currency crisis, debt crisis has shown that capitalism doesn't work. It may not fail this time around but it must fail eventually. I've stated before that the idea of a warehouse with 50,000 pots of jam being worth more money tomorrow is ridiculous. There's still only 50,000 pots of jam. Day to day, Del Boy tricks may come into play but that can only happen if you connive with the model.
Supporters of our system extol the 'Free Market' when the value of their houses are rocketing. It makes them feel rich... and smug. They also extol the system whilst their pension pots are climbing at a faster rate than inflation. The problem is, as often quoted in advertisements, [sub]The value of investments may go down as well as up[/sub].
Because so many people have bought into (and have a vested interest in) the system, governments cannot allow them to lose their money. The fact is, government intervention is the antithesis of free-market capitalism. Capitalism gives disproportional power to those with money.
^^ In loving memory of my da.
