ipod touch help

guys i am stuck, i have a 2nd generation ipod touch, i have upgraded the firmware using the restore+shift method and am now running 2.2.1 i want a few apps like ibooks but every app i try to download it seems to say that irs only compatible with versions 3.0 or 3.1 or higher. so i tried to use itunes to update and it says i am running the latest firmware which i know to be false, so i downloaded one that claimed to be 3.0 from a site and used the restore+shift method and it says could not restore becuase my ipod is not compatible! i have downloaded 2 copies of the 3.0 software from 2 differant sites and both return the same error. after having to transfer my itunes to a new pc and now this i will never buy an apple product again. but seeing as i've started i might as well finish, any ideas guys?

Dont know anything about them jamjars ,but sure one of the guys will have some info

errrr......not sure what that is about...

anyway i sorted the ipod and just subscribed to sky mobile, is quite impressive, thanks anyway
