Help needed
I was wondering if anyone could help me out,my computer has fcuked up big style.A program called spyware protection has popped up on it and it is not letting me onto firefox, windows media or run any programs.I tried a system restore but it only comes up on the screen for a second then disappears.Been at this for hours now so any help would be greatly appriecated.

I had this on a few 'clients' computers. I removed it by running SuperAntiSpyware from a USB flash drive. It's free and works. Piece of advice - use Microsoft Security Essentials in the first place and don't get any problems. I've had it for ny on two years and it's been superb - not had a problem. This is a Trojan that is typically started by opening anonymous spam in your email inbox - don't open emails that your not expecting and certainly don't click links in emails that come from sources you don't know or are not expecting mail from.

Also. If it lets you, click 'Start icon', type in msconfig, <ENTER>, click the 'Startup' tab, uncheck any startup items which look dodgy, <APPLY> then restart your PC. You can then run anti-virus programs, hopefully.
This worked about a year ago but the virus has probably been developed since then.
Edit: does MSE install in Safe Mode?

Sounds like it could be Malware. Start in safe mode and install Malwarebytes and run/scan now.
If it is Malware this should get rid. It's the identifying of the problem that's usually the difficult part; the getting rid is often (usually) easy.
Good luck.

elftone your going to have to stop the rogue application running in the start up tab using msconfig
the program will be a list of numbers
its opening up on start up hence why you need to disable it
once disabled it gives you full net access back and you just download and run malwarebytes.org it appears its the only free removal tool that gets it
it has loads of different guises and the most recent version apparently was embedded into an advert on spotify - so you can literally pick this fucker up anywhere
hope you get it sorted

If you are on Windows 7, MSE is one of the best. You have to allow its database to update though. If you are on a 'borrowed' copy of Windows 7, PM me.

Safe mode with networking, then run Hitman Pro. Easiest and quickest method. I used to swear by Malwarebytes until Hitman came along, seriously good.

If it's sounding rough, whip the side of and give it a clean out, careful if hoovering, best thing to use is a tin of compressed air outside.

Too true Sir Baz - had Super antispyware and Malwarebytes for a year and they never found anything once which suggested that MSE was doing a fine job. Ditched both ages ago and still no probs. MSE FTW...
