Foreign satellite channels
Has anyone got a dish installed that picks up the foreign satellite cahnnels that you can get here through the links? I am considering getting it myself as my internet connection is always messing me about during streaming because im soo far away from the ping point according to bt and they say line speed wont be improved for awhile yet.

Thats what scuddd means by motorised, the dish moves to pick up the signals. I am sure someone has asked about it before and there is a thread somewhere with lots of info and few suggestions, have a search. Think the dishes are bit bigger than the sky ones. Not too sure myself.
Have a look here for starters, lot to take in.

Cheers jake, its all going over my head here been googling it flat out since scuddd suggested it and my heads ready to melt now. I dont fancy installing the dish myself as it would be easy to make a mess off it. Could be worth a go tho if it gives you all the foreign channels required and it doesnt run into big money like.

Aye it looks good, but i just rang my local tv engineer that does all the work around these parts to get him to install it for me and he told me he didnt do them anymore as they are not worth the hassle. He said the nearest man to me would be up the country good few miles away and even he mite not do it. Seeminly you have to reset the dish after every few months to pick up the signal and they need updated with different cards aswell. He said they had more bother with them and gave them up. You have to get your dish reset mike?

the man you spoke to is talking bollox barry..
ive had mine for about 18 months (I upgraded from an old technomate) and have never had to mess around with the dish, thats going back nearly 7 years on the main dish! Every now and then you can do an update when new packages or firmware is released.. thats a usb stick in the back on the receiver, updates take 5 mins!
The receivers are on an auto update feature for keys using ethernet! they are the future mate!
You can tell your satellite mate to learn his fucking trade, he needs to seriously look at the new generation of receivers!
Where are you based, theres loads of authorised engineers on the Alsat forums?

I was thinking he was off the mark saying that because ive done my research in the forums and there is loads of people investing in them and never having any bother with them like. The man i spoke too is the top man at doin tvs and dishes round here too like soo i thought he would have known his stuff. Im based in northern ireland, tyrone region duno if you have ever herd of it. But all the local men are not interested in installing them anymore seemingly. To be honest i dont know enough about them to install a dish myself or even attempt the setup. Did you install yours scudd?

yes.. its not hard!
You need a perfectly straight and solid bracket or pole, a compass for due south and you need to know the longitude and latitude of the dish location for the offset of the motor and dish!
Once you have it set perfectly on usals all the sats will just drop in.. Its always best to set it up on 1w (thor), thats pretty much due south!

What an idiot, I've never had to reset my dish, like Scudd I upgraded from a Technomate but I got someone in to install my dish, cost me 70 quid but saved me messing about with it.
So long as your receiver is connected to your router, Service + will open up a whole stash of goodies, football and movies is what I use mine for, all in perfect HD.

Im seriously considering taking the plunge and buying a dish and box then getting a satellite man to install. What all do i need then, i dont have a clue about cards. Also do i have to buy an ethernet broadband cable then to connect to the router? Is it possible to run it without hooking up to the router? Sorry for all the questions, any help would be great. Thanks.
