He was on the news earlier. Staying for nothing in a big fancy 5-star hotel.

Don't agree with Messi getting the Fifa Ballon d'Or award, should have been Xavi.

Although all three deserved the award i dont know how you can say that messi didnt deserve it, 60+ goals for barcelona and argentina, he had an absolutely spectacular season last season, fully deserved in my opinion.
As for goal of the season, i thought it was between matty burrows and that swedish guy, all the other goals were good but we've all seen them types of goals 100 times before, but burrows' and the swedish guys' were pretty unique

agree with jakes comments about Xavi. He won the world cup. I know Messi is marvellous, but he's not shone at the world cup. it doesn't matter Argentina not winning it, if Messi had played really well, I'd agree with the decision. But he did virtually nowt in South Africa.
Now I'm not a big fan of int'l footie, but Fifa usually uses the world cup as a major factor in choosing the world player of year award, particulary in world cup year!!!

Don't get me wrong big Messi fan, great player and goal scorer. However it is a team game and without Xavi and Iniesta would he score so many. Often the ones who do the donkey work are over looked, like this in my opinion. Watch a lot of la liga and see the work that xavi does, which doesn't go unnoticed but rarely rewarded, that's my point. Was fantastic in the World cup.Messi will win it a lot more times yet.Like I say just my opinion and reason.

I agree Jake. Xavi is Barca's most important player.

Agree with Waka, made the same point to my son that while all the goals were great Burrowes goal was unique and "should" win on that basis.

Surprised the lads goal didn't win, but there is undoubted snobbery going on there. If he'd scored it in the top flight in Eng, Spain or Italy, I am sure it would have won.
Shame, but they can't take the goal away from him. What a peach.

The two Portugeezeers reckon Burrowes goal was best.

Its impossible to know for certain, but most of the goals i've seen messi score generally arent put on a plate, and none of the other barcelona strikers score as much as Messi, i just looked up the assists for this season (so far) and last season, xavi assisted 14 while messi assisted 10 last season and this season messi has assisted 12 already this season and xavi wasnt on the list. I think this shows that messi is as much part of the creative side of barcelona as xavi as he is part of the scoring side, but his goals seem to mask the former, a bit like Henry for Arsenal in his prime.
Xavi and iniesta are both exceptional players and probably walk into any team in the world, but Messi is arguably the worlds best player at the moment and was probably slightly more exceptional than xavi and iniesta last season.
As for the world cup i think its rubbish that the award should be heavily based on a one month competition, when the season is around 10 months long, still surprised that cannavaro won it over zidane in 2006. I didnt think messi had that bad of a tournament, he didnt light the world on fire like he does for barcelona but any game i seen him play, he worked very hard and was always dangerous, and was just unlucky after a long hard season of club football.
