The referee had made a major fuck up on a decision during a Republic attack a few minutes earlier. I watched him pushing his earpiece in when he was being told. They say that refs do not receive information from the fourth official but we've all seen them do so.

Whilst watching the match, I wasn't surprised by the decision. He was trying to correct his earlier mistake and got it wrong again.

As you say though, no outcry about the equivalent of 'Terry da Teef' as Thierry was called on RTE at the time.

it was a good draw for us, but we still have to do the business on the field, as to some of the comments about "thierry da teef", that was different to what happened on tuesday, firstly the outrage was about thierry cheating not about the referee not seeing it. on tuesday the refereee got it blatently wrong and yes we probably went through as a result but it wasn't because of us cheating. i felt sorry for Armenia it would have been a better game if the keeper had not been sent off and who can say what the result would have been. but to suggest that this is the same as the thierry handball is incorrect
