Is there not a case to be made for putting an ad on the static front page? It won't affect proper FSi members as they get their links from the Feedback. No ads in the forums.

Any profits, after server costs, will be donated to a charity of the members' choice. We add a caption beneath the ad which points out that the ad is benefiting a charity.

We'll 'cold call' bookies and poker sites with our 'hit figures'. See if any will pay. 200,000 hits a week will grab their attention.

Like many others, I put a lot of work into FSi. I'd like to think that a charity was benefiting. We are altruistic.

Hey begs, I ain't been on here in yonks and not sure who posts on here and who runs the show nowadays but the old skool fsi blokes who started it all and kept things going done so with the principles that the site was fully free from all fees and adds no matter what they offered as this site represents the opposite of what all the scrags out there are doing and ripping people off for a free service, I'm not saying that adds would be associated with them and you can't knock donating to a charity but are the sites principals still in place after all this time
Maybe a mirror site that has fsi associated adds or donate 50% of any extra income from donations once you have hit your targets (if that's what still happens?)

I'm saying that FSi makes no profit. All profits from the ad will go to a charity. At the minute, we have thousands of people who just visit the static front page. Very few are FSi members. If a charity can get funds for that, what's the problem?

Or how about advertising a charity? Not sure what fees companies would pay to advertise on here? But just 1% of 200000 people going to a charity may benefit them more? But as I said I have no idea what a company would pay

Aye. Thought of that but the main charities will keep their distance in case we are 'pirates'.

A bookie ad will bring more money in than a charity ad will bring.

To be honest, I'd like a charity to be making a few bob from FSi. We put in the work so somebody should benefit.

Can't see a problem with it myself, as long as it did just stay on the main page and not on the forums. Likes bazzer said in todays climate where money is tight it could well be necessary.

My stance has always been to have ads. This whole "we don't have ads cos we're only about the football" falls on its face everytime you need donations.

Have ads, just don't have ads inbetween forum posts, or invasive bullshit ads that direct you away from screen, pop up some window for cam whores or have so many per page it chugs the site when loading.

If everyone truly wants to have FSI up and running for years to come then some sucker needs to foot the bill. You have two choices:

1. Everyone.
2. People who donate.

And frankly, i can happily hit my p2p with adblock plus on and NEVER see an ad. I had to turn it off to realise why everyone here hates the place.

You know that there are no ads on FSi. Why go for the big fib?

Edit the morning after: What was I talking about?

Don't see the harm in ad ad or two-"FSI powered by bullshit" or whatever just as long as you keep that pic of Theo scoring against Chelski.

If it means that fsi keeps going , one ad on the static page won't hurt. Like you say most people visiting these days only use that. Due to that you won't get people donating because they don't go in the forums so don't understand how the site is run or the ethics. I know some older members/ moderators will go crazy at this. Trouble is times change and the financial side definitely has. People have more choice now to get links, less money than 2 or 3 years ago, less time to get involved in the forums. I don't think 1 ad will make any difference as far as not getting new members to join in the chat. Hopefully the core element and 1 or 2 fresh new faces a week will keep that ticking over, but these members can't finance the site always. New members who use the front page won't donate, so an ad is a way of donating for them.
Of course the other good point is any left over profit goes to charity, again this makes it worthwhile for all the hard work the mods and link finders do.
It's just my opinion.

Think Begbie was saying everything earned from any ads would go to charity not to the site....

Yes but after the server costs which is what donations cover, no profit making.

I've been a memeber since near the beginning of this site and have donated to keep the site going in the past. Times do change though (I've had a Son and got a Daughter on the way since then and the Mrs gave her job up long ago to be a full time Mum) and so money is obviously a lot tighter since those days and I don't have the spare cash to donate now.

I can't see the problem of having an ad and also who in their right mind could see a problem with a charity benefitting in any way?! I personally think it's a great idea if it gives the site the financial security to keep going as well as helping a charity.

This must be the best site on the net lol and should NEVER be allowed to die! I'll also take this opportunity to say thankyou to all you hard working mods for giving us hard up footy fans access to free footy
