Classic memories of our childhood
“Now you are playing with power!” do you remember that??

I had been playing Donkey Kong and I could not wait to get my hands on the new game. The strange and wonderful world of Super Mario caught my attention immediately. Games such as Contra let me take the role of an armed military commando as either Bill or Lance (in my mind personified as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger) and machine-gun my way through hordes of enemies.

I recently bought a smart phone from lightinthebox.com equipped with a number of applications and a lot of games. The creative gaming experience does not fall short of those we had as children playing the classic games.

If it's computer games we're talking about then I have to say I wasted most of my teenage years playing Kick Off 2 with the World Cup '90 add on, Sensible Soccer and also Championship Manager 93 and 94.

I found Champ Man 93/94 available on the internet as freeware and I think I still have them somewhere. Our lass started moaning at the amount of time I was spending with my 'lost loves' though so jacked it in for a bit but now the night's are drawing in and it's getting colder I think it just may be time for them to make a return!

I've also got Amiga and Atari ST emulators too somewhere for when the urge to play Kick Off 2 gets really bad. The only thing is you can't buy a Zipstick type controller... http://www.retroscene.co.uk/prodimag...zip_stick2.jpg
...for the PC. They're always those big fuckoff f'flight sim' type joysticks

I also spent a lot of time on Crime City, a point and click detective game. Never did finish that one until I got my emulators a few years ago. Excellent game though. Carrier Command was a good one too.

Just re-read this lot before posting and before you say it... I already know I'm a fucking sad bastard!

I remember my mother beating me round the back of the legs with a wet tea towel, does that count as classic?

Doing wheelies on your Chopper bike. Playing football in the street. Hiding in people's gardens when the police came around. Trying to explain to your ma why you lay down in dog shit in somebody's garden.

Gordon the Gopher, Roland Rat. Playing Golden Axe 2 on the Mega Drive, having to leave it on all night because there was no way of saving your progress. Also being tango'd in the playground when someone would run behind you and slap both your ears, resulting in one perforated eardrum.

I had a raleigh grifter, three speed gears operated on the right handlebar. My brother had a raleigh boxer, which was a right piece of shite. The chopper was cool with the gear between your legs!! Quality stuff! Cycling around industrial estates when all the factories had closed was great fun also.
