Chilean miners
I heard a throw-away quip today, wondering if the Chilean miners were on double-time.
It reminded me that White Star stopped the pay of the crew of the Titanic from the time the ship sank. Caring employers.

With all the crap going on in the world and all over the news, it was so good to see the rescue be successful. Had me watching it yesterday a lot. More entertaining than the England game anyway.

Just been watching those people being rescued on the news. It's so nice to see a glimmer of hope in their eyes and a smile on their mucky faces, but still I hope Everton beat them on Sunday

That was standard for the merchant navy, in WW2 your pay was stopped from the moment your ship went under when you were torpedoed by a U-boat. If you were lucky and got rescued and the vessel that rescued you was on its way to say Australia, you could end up there and your original company wouldn't pay to get you home.It was also your own responsibilty to make your way home to try and sign up for another ship.
