Chatroom/forum
Dear FSi users,
Why don't we...use the forum first and use the chatroom as a back up, in case the site struggles?
The help given in the chatroom is lost very quickly in things like "Sharky is a wanker and logs in", "Sharky is a wanker and logs out". If it's on the forum it's always there, thus enabling people to scroll through the feedback and find the working links.
The chatroom (as I understand it) was there as a back up for when the server is struggling. Now you have the site on a decent server, which doesn't struggle, surely the forum should be the busiest place for people to exchange information on working links for the reason I describe above.
Love,
Sharky.

On match day if you have not got a fast speed comp useing the forums all but stops your comp ,it drags and hangs ,it,s far simpler for some member to use the chatroom for links and a gab ,I for one enjoy the chatroom it's a great edition to the site and well used ,think it should be up to the members where they get there links on site

i would tend to agree with you berb but sharky makes a very valid point its the forums that are the mainstay of this site, i think that any good working links should be posted on the forum as well as the chatroom,

have voiced my thoughts before on this
i tend to agree the forum should be the main and preferred place for anything and everything to be posted ,but i have got to like the chatroom as well it is a quick handy way to communicate however i remeber the old chatroom when site was down and we were busy , nothing posted was worth it as soon as ypou posted a link it would vanish with a blast of requests
what we did do was have a static page with all the links hosted ona file store page and just gave out a link to it in the end but it was still chaos most of the time most of the mods wouldnt go near it ,
the forum is quiet ,deadly quiet but the oncoming world cup could change that if we get busy enough to crash the server here ,if the chatroom handles the flood of those from here then it will be caos

Forums are inconvenient and, lets face it, noone will reply to anyones request in the feedback thread. So people use the chatroom as they usually get an instant reply.

sorry Rev i cant agree mate
let me respond to your reasons ,not personell honest just the alternative viewpoint
"forums are inconvenient"
for who .. us?
what is more inconvenient logging on to a forum looking at a single page and getting 50 links to 5 games then scrolling down a few posts to get al relevant news
or
logging on to a chatroom having to compete with everyone else on it posting requests and getting a single link posted at a time imagine it with 100 or 200 people on
no one replies to requests in feedback
thats our fault no other reason its up to us to monitor the feedback thread during match times and respond instantly
chat usually instant response
yes as long as its reasonably quiet as have said imagine it with say 100 people on 50 logging on and off all askung for links and/or needing help with why sopcast and veetle for eg have crashed
no chat is fine as a back up for quick replies or to link either a single match or to a static page but when things get busy enough to threaten to crash the site then the numbers involved would be far better served in a forum format than a chat format antyime
just ask those who had to handle 300 screaming yanks when tvu and sopcast went down last world cup if a chat room would have worked i can tell you no but the forum did caotic as it was

You used to get an instant response on the forum, difference is it stays there for all to read.

What'd be more convenient would be to recolour the working links to green or something.
A very small handful of folks put which links work, and which don't. The rest of the feedback thread is extra browser links or veetle links.
The reason people use the chatroom is because they're hugely impatient - asking a question and then having to wait 3-5 mins for a reply is not favourable to just hitting the chat room, asking and leaving.
Simply adding pages of browser links, with intermittent information regarding working links is why no one bothers to use the feedback thread any more. People are lazy, don't wanna click through 3 or 4 pages and wanna be spoon fed.

Bullshit rev. In the forum you used to get a reply in a few moments. The mods choose to use the chatroom now. Answers are lost in "Rev the wanker logs in" "Rev the wanker logs out". On the forum the answers are always there.
Are you thick as fuck or you cannot see what I'm saying?

This forum is dying, it's about time we (all of us) did something about it. Sacking off the chatroom until it's needed should be the first step in my opinion.

The chatroom has and always was meant to be used as a back up only if the site went down. It's up to the linkfiddlers/mods if they want to communicate through that with working up-to-date links or use the forum which is our bread and butter, there has been no slow downs for a while now.
My own view on the chatroom whenever I have viewed it(its been a while ago now since) is it's full of leeching bastards that add nothing to site, it's the want it now mentality that frigs me off, the same type of people that post 'seed seed' 1 min after a new torrent has been posted on torrent sites. Things may have changed since but from what I've heard I doubt it.

the only good thing about the chat room is its a quick easy way for us mods/linkfinders to communicate
the rest well Raff summed it up ,dont get me wrong some really good folk on there at times but as we are doing nowtrying to direct tem to forum must be a priority
one more thing
Stateside please understand this is not being unthankfull for all you did and provided the chatroom is appreciated and has its own vital role its the role we are disputing not the existing of the chat room

It sounds as though this is a chicken and egg situation regarding Shark's and Rev's points. Are people using the Chatroom because they aren't getting good, up-to-date info in the Feedback or are people not posting in the Feedback because they can get all their info in the Chatroom?
I'm with Raff. I won't go near a chatroom because of previous experiences. Having said that, I haven't seen the new Chatroom for this very reason.
It seems to me that there is more likelihood of people posting in other Forum threads if they are 'navigating' through the Forum to find what they want. They might read something by mistake and decide to comment on it. I know that I can't keep my mouth shut at times.

People are using the chatroom because they aren't getting up to date information on the forum, Jade.
