Carlisle United Hall of Fame
1. Jimmy Glass.

He moved to Carlisle United on loan from Swindon late that season (after goalkeeper Tony Caig was sold to Blackpool and Richard Knight's loan had expired.) His moment of fame came on 8 May 1999, in the final match of the 1998–99 season against Plymouth Argyle, which Carlisle needed to win to avoid relegation. With the score 1–1 with only ten seconds remaining, and Carlisle winning a corner, Glass came up from his own penalty area and promptly scored a last minute goal, volleying the ball in after the Plymouth goalkeeper had parried out Scott Dobie's goalbound header. Carlisle got the win they needed and Scarborough were relegated to the Football Conference instead.

2. Bill Shankly

Shankly retired from playing in March 1949 and the same month was appointed the manager of Carlisle United, beginning his managerial career where his professional playing career had also started. He lifted Carlisle from 15th in Division Three North in 1949 to a title challenging 3rd in 1951, but resigned in that year citing a lack of financial commitment on the part of the directors – a pattern which would repeat itself for the next ten years across a succession of northern English football clubs. However, Shankly influenced the careers of players such as Ivor Broadis (who went on to collect 14 caps for England and remained friends with him long after his departure), for many years.

3. Peter Beardsley.

Born in Longbenton, Northumberland, Beardsley was a product of the famous Wallsend Boys Club in North Tyneside. However, he was released as a teenager by hometown club Newcastle United and began his professional career with Carlisle United in 1978. He managed 22 goals in 104 league games (helping them win promotion to the Second Division at the end of the 1981–82 season)

4. Matt Jansen.

A creative player, Jansen's career started at his home town club of Carlisle United, where he scored 10 league goals. In 1997 he also earned his first taste of glory as Carlisle earned promotion to the Second Division after finishing third. During the same season he also won his first piece of silverware as he came on late in extra time at Wembley for Carlisle's win against Colchester United in the 1997 Football League Trophy Final.

5. Ian Harte.

On 26 March 2009, Harte signed a contract to the end of the season with Carlisle United and made his debut a couple of days later at home to Northampton Town. He won man of the match for his impressive performance but did not play for a month after breaking two fingers during the game. He returned to action on 25 April 2009, scoring a free kick in the 1–1 draw against Cheltenham Town.[9] He also played in the last match of the season, which Carlisle won against Millwall to stay in League 1, at Northampton's expense. Harte signed a two-year contract with Carlisle United on 18 May 2009 keeping him at the club until the summer of 2011.[10] He was in the team which reached the Football League Trophy final at Wembley Stadium in March 2010, though Carlisle lost 4–1 to Southampton. He finished the season as Carlisle's top goalscorer, scoring 18 times from defence.[11]
In May 2010 he was selected in the Football League One PFA Team of the Year for the 2009–10 season.
Harte started the 2010–11 season in good goalscoring form, scoring a penalty in the league opener against Brentford and in Carlisle's first away game, against Plymouth Argyle.

When I was smaller than I am now, I had an Aunty Dinah in Cummersdale.
And a girl-friend of the opposite sex, called Fionah.
I used to play in the moat at Carlisle Castle. circa 1972.
Fionah I've always loved you!

It's a work in progress. Matty is there. Was meant as a piss take of the SPL Hall of fame thread but also to encourage others to list their clubs' hall of fame.

I remember when they Playing in the First Division for the 1974–75 season. Carlisle won their first three fixtures to go top of the English football pyramid, partly due to the likes of Chris Balderstone, scoring the penalty which put them at the top, and Bobby Parker who both went on to make at least 375 league appearances for Carlisle.

We won 1-0 at home your team played well its just your forwards miss a lot of good chances all season if they'd gone in who know what would have happened.

Ha ha! I worked with him at a motor dealership in Boro in 2004. We were parts delivery drivers and he was also doing a bit of scouting on the side for Boro. I'm sure he said he played for Carlisle at one point, possibly when they were in the top flight. He never spoke about his career much, a very unassuming fella. He is a true gent, one of the nicest people you could meet.

Oh yeah, he was still class at footy too. Ran rings around us at 5-a-side even though we were in our early 20's and he was 50 odd

I'm often told about 'that' season. Shame I was still a twinkle in my Mam and Dad's eyes. Still, live the dream. One season in the premier league...please.
