Dan. You've been hanging about with those rough boys from the scheme again.
You aren't even the best in your own hoose.

Post by someone called 'big dan' on http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1249845
The subject is 'Gay storylines leading three soaps on the same night '.
I think it's great, and looking at it, all three stories are being portrayed differently.
I would say it is a remarkable step forward that soaps are gradually taking 'gay storylines' from many different angles. In particular the Sophie/Sian plot, where the fact that they are lesbians doesn't really seem to be much of an issue for them. I expect things will get slightly angsty when they go public, but I think it is perfectly natural to be a bit nervous about how your loved ones will react?
The progression we've got lately in the way gay stories are told, is a good sign that in the future we will have stories about gay people, that are not dependant on that one factor of their life.

The author of the book says differently:
Welsh said John Hodge, who wrote the screenplay, had taken a typical middle-class view of the working-class hardman by portraying him as gay.
“I think the Begbie of the film is more potentially gay than the Begbie of the book,” said Welsh, 50, who now divides his time between Dublin and Miami.
“In the book Renton and Sick Boy hint that he’s a repressed homosexual as a means of making him into a less frightening figure and thus empowering themselves against his violence.
“John Hodge latched onto this side of things and amplified it subtly in the screenplay. It’s a standard middle-class view; the working-class hardman is subconsciously gay.”
I've read the books and I'm not middle-class.

I love all Irvine Welsh's books. Begbie turns up as a 'passing' character in some others.
I'd go for Marabou Stork Nightmares if you've never read any Irvine Welsh.
Edit: It takes a few chapters to get in to. Some are written in 'Ripping Yarns' style, others in pure Scottish.
