can anybody help me find a really good value for money isp?
i have just bought my first flat and was planning on doing the whole tv, broadnand and calls effort with sly tv. it turns out that because i live in portland, dorset i can only get their sly connect deal, which is £17 per month and limits me to 40gb downloads each month.
i told them that i need an unlimited downloads package and not to bother with my order and in all fairness the bloke i was talking too seemed very understanding.
so i spent the passed couple of hours searching google for the best deals i could get, I was tempted by 02 by it turns out that i can't get them either, i feel like i live in the middle of the ocean not the venue for the 2012 olympic sailing venue!!!
i've been looking at a few of the lesser known isps one in particular had very favorable reviews on one of those comparison websites but i fear that if the larger companies can't provide me, the lesser ones have no chance, the last thing i want is to be forced to use BT again (very expensive for terrible broadband) and it seems my only alternative is virgin who have had some very dodgy reviews.
i just want a decent service that allows mw to watch soppy etc and doesn't throttle me too much, any ideas??
Jamjars, I,m with Aol platnum deal unlimited download ,broadband, free calls to any uk landline 24/7 £26 odds a month if you go with them tell them you want a netgear router the d/link is crap not had a glitch since Iswaped my router to netgear, line rental part of price a good deal
thanks for the replies guys.
adam, i can get 02 but its 02 access and i can't find reviews as to how it performs, and any small tidbits i do find seem very negative.
bazza thanks for the info, unfortunatly i have already arranged my phone calls with BT, their phone service i can't fault it's just their broadband i find abysmal.
my mum and dad who live around a mile from me are with orange and haven't had any probs at all, but i'm wandering if it's because when they signed up it was wannado and the wireless router is a belkin one that i bought and installed myself?
mate bt happily give Aol your line and number all services stay the same if a fault occurs on your line Aol get bt to fix at no cost to you as long as fault is not in your house
so for £26 quid its all the one bill
no I am not sure how Aol or others do it they do all the contacting once you agree to join them takes about 2 weeks but your phone stays connected untill connection day then your line gose dead for a couple of hours at most till everything is changed over and your broadband works its no probs
thanks for the pm bazza, i took you advice and phoned the number you gave me and the helpful fella gave me a nice free phone number to phone to discuss joining them.......i guess you get what you pay for....
Virgin media for me. Never had a problem with it, you get shitty freeview tv and a phoneline with free calls but i've heard you can buy a another box for about £79 and do something with your virgin media box and you unscramble all the other channels meaning you get all of sky sports, movies etc.
1mb per sec downloads so can download movies in minutes really if enough seeds.
i finally decided to go with orange, my parents have had them since the freeserve days, despite the bad reviews on the web i am very happy so far, started very shakily i was getting 0.29mbps via the speedtests but then noticed an e-mail saying they would be testing my line over ten days and not to worry if my speeds are slow and to keep my router on.
left it for a couple of hours and presto!! 2.2mpbs and thats all i need really. so far so good!

wouldnt bother buying another box . Turns into a very expensive freeview box soon ( in some areas they allready have )
