world is a sadder .duller place without him
yes he had his well documented problems but was not only a great talent on the tables but a real character and great entertainment off it

one of the all time greats of the green bay
i would say rest in peace Alex but when did he ever do anything peacefully

really sad to hear the news, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to see him in his prime

another great goes far too young

Very sad news, the Hurricane was the reason, the only reason to watch snooker back in the day. He was a showman, entertainer and nutter into the bargain.
RIP Higgy.

RIP Hurricane ... agree with all the sentiments, he made snooker a spectator sport; made it exciting .. a bit like the Georgie Best or Gazza of the snooker halls.

His health the last couple of years really deteriorated though .. so it's not a surprise but it's still sad

Have to disagree. As a snooker player he was a fucking genius but as a person? Cunt. A woman beater, a real violent man at times, a womaniser, the list is endless. You have to seperate the two, like most geniuses he was seriously flawed and you have to ask yourself what you rarher be, a good person who is a pleasure to be around or a genius who when away from whatever it is you are genius at are a complete and utter twat. There are some people who will not miss Alex Higgins for the hell he put them through. Tragic really more than anything. Still, R.I.P. His condolence of a young Jimmy white when he beat him in the world championship final is still enough to make me well up.

Who are you disagreeing with, everybody has said he was a snooker legend, no one said he was man of the year or even a good person?

I would disagree with that. Off the table he was an utter cunt, sometimes on it too!
