Please advise me if I am wrong but if the site is down having a 'shortcut' to your page wouldn't help would it??

Not a shortcut but saving the whole page as text file so it's available without actually going to it.

No. If the site is rammed, the problem would be the number of people trying to connect to our server, not how they get there.

Luckily this server seems pretty robust and there didn't seem to be any problems. (Our numbers of hits have brought a few servers down over the years. )

Lot's of big games on Sunday this week. Then on Wednesday night we have 7 PL games. Is the site capable of this much traffic??

Yes. No problems last weekend. This server 'iz da bollox' as the kids say.
